I honestly know nothing much about cameras. I need someone who knows to help me before I buy!

Never heard of SVP, and the Kodak is pretty basic and has no stabilization. I'd pass on both of those.

Refurbished means something was fixed or replaced, and normally comes with a shorter warranty (usually 90 days).

When I was shopping last Christmas, I wanted something very small and about $100. After doing the homework, I ended up with this.

I've found all of the Canon Powershot cameras to be very solid, find one with IS and you should be good to go.

SVP are crap. Total crap. Make sure your eBay seller is an authorized dealer or you'll have no warranty even if it's new.

Right now you can get a Canon A1000 for less than 150 USD. It does not permit much in the way of manual control. It is a decent camera. It has image stabilization and an optical view finder.

has anyone ever bought a refurbished camera before? pro's and cons?

Yes, Olympus SP-350 and Fuji E900

Pros:

1) Ability to get a camera which was no longer available any other way.
2) Price.

Cons:

1) Only 3 months warranty. However, since most camera failures occur either very soon after first use, or after a long period of use, this isn't of major significance.

I bought a Canon 30D that was refurbished. Just like a new one and it came with all the software, cables, etc that comes in a new box. Never had any problems with it at all.
