I had the bulb set a little too low for the pellet to shatter it. The pellet has bounced off the top. Amazing capture!

Technically a super catch. Good job Rhys.
Don't see anyone else on here catching a pellet in flight :)
Liked the others too.

Technically it's all very challenging. There are things that would make life much easier such as:

1. A flash trigger that calculated the speed of the bullet.
2. Laser targeting that I could shine down the barrel to see where the pellet will actually hit.
3. A microflash.

All those are available but the cost is between $10,000 and $100,000. I might construct my own micro flash. I have my eye on a Ford Model A condenser and a Ford Model A coil. Those would help a lot. Oh, by the way, I won't be showing anybody how to build a microflash because I'm dealing with 18,000 - 50,000 volts and that's just plain dangerous (but fun).

Nice shot :)

I'm actually amazed at how you got a pellet to ricochet off of a bulb like that

I can pretty much throw a pellet at a bulb and shatter it :p

Its always the way: you want to break something and you can't, and if you do not want to break something you do !

Do you have any protection Rhys when you are doing this? I remember when I was a teenager with an airgun the pellet bounced off the target and went through a school mates calf. It didn't quite make it all the way through, you could see a grey patch and he had to go to hospital and have it cut out

You can pull a pellet out of ones leg, but more importantly is wearing.....

I always cover my eyes with my arm when I fire. I've been hit by lots of ricochets but as you can see from the picture, the pellet is hardly blurred. That means it's traveling very slowly. Here's a full-speed pellet photo at 100% crop. This is also one of my rejects - the flash went off too soon. I'd got my timing delay slightly wrong. Again - the lighting was not good in this image.
