I posted this article because I thought it was important info on these kinds of online companies. I can't believe that 53 people looked at it and didn't have any comments. Either they don't have a clue about this problem or they were taken by one of these companies and are to ashamed to admit it. I see folks here asking "should I buy from this or that company, they have a really cheap price" but apparently it doesn't interest them when there is an article about these very companies. I posted a thread about checking out these kinds of places on resellerratings.com and was told that it was old info why bring it up again. All though, I think one person did agree with me on that post.

It's the nature of forums. Anybody who has been around for a while is well away of the NY reseller scams that go on and probably feels that there is no need to comment. Generally the people who post "what camera should I buy" questions are new to the forum therefore they would not yet have seen your post and also they are unlikely to see it because again generally they don't search before the post.
To suggest the 53 people on this forum have been taken in by scammers and are to ashamed to admit it is rather low IMO especially when it's coming from somebody with a very low post count over a relatively short period of time.

I agree with K1W1. Not everyone will add a post to everything they read. And I don't know how OP make such a deduction. There are many similar threads dealing with on-lines shops in Where Should I Buy My Camera? thread with many posters put up their grievances.
One of the recent ones is Beware online photo shops (http://www.dcresource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43767); 883 viewers but only 4 replies. That doesn't mean 879 people are too ashamed to admit they got scammed.

I was 1 of the 53 that read it and didn't comment, but not because of either of those 2 reasons. I read many threads without commenting, so what, doesn't mean that I don't have a clue or I'm ashamed. In this particular case it only meant I read it, already knew it, and didn't give a shit enough to comment until now.

Firstly, I'd like to thank you for posting the story about Broadway. And I agree; it is important to advise people (who may not be aware) of these sorts of scams or whatever.

But.....

.....I can't believe that 53 people looked at it and didn't have any comments. Either they don't have a clue about this problem or they were taken by one of these companies and are to ashamed to admit it.....

I was one of the 53 people (now 148!) who read your post, but didn't think it necessary to respond for two reasons:

First: I live in Australia, so would never be buying from an American retailer... ever.

Secondly: I was already aware of this incident as I'm both more than internet, and camera, savvy.

So... the presumption that I, as one of your post's viewers "don't have a clue", is somewhat presumptuous don't you think?

And, you may well have alerted a few people who've chosen not to respond, but are still appreciative of your warning. As the other guys have said, the numbers of 'viewers' is always well above the number of respondents.

Cheers :)

It is my opinion that anyone who thinks they're going to get something for nothing or for a significantly lower price than known, established, legitimate retailers deserves the lesson they are taught the hard way.

Now that's a little harsh. Nobody deserves to be scammed, conned or made a fool of. There are some people out there who are naive. There are also people out there that would normally use physical shops but who have just discovered internet shops and have simply shopped around for the lowest price without realising that there are more scammers than anything else online.

Life is harsh. If you don't know what you're doing, ask someone who does.

I find myself agreeing - 'Free cheese comes only in mouse traps' is a very relevant phrase for today's world. People may not deserve to get scammed, but if they do once, they probably won't again. Sometimes lessons must be learned the hard way. And if they do get caught out again...to use another saying,

'Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.'

I apologize to anyone who thought that I meant that they should be ashamed of being scammed by one of these stores. I didn't mean it the way it sounded! I just thought that I'd put the info out there for those that hadn't heard about it, or didn't know the reputation on these stores. I know that most of us know about these places, but I thought that if it helped someone new it was worth it. I realize too, that there are always many more "views" than responses to any post. Thanks to all that did respond!
