Does anyone know WHY the DC industry has discontinued the DATE IMPRINT function on most cameras? I LOVE this function even though I take most pictures without it. Very few fixed lense cameras include this function and I wonder why it's becoming a thing of the past.

Because it looks cheesy and the date is embedded in the image anyway.
What he said.
If you want the date on the front of your photos it's really easy to do using software. I think the printed date function was more a hang over from the later film days when the date was not recorded any other way.
