I've really enjoyed shooting with the D3 but I'm not shooting sports as much as I once was and decided to pull out some of the money I've got tied up in this hobby.

Tomorrow night I'll be swapping the D3 for a D700, 24-70, and small amount of cash which will enable me to sell my 17-55. Next decision is whether to sell the D300 and go back to shooting with a single camera forcing me to start packing light again.

Though I've never been in need for a second body most "Pro" photographers consider having a backup camera on hand a must. For that reason I'd think long and hard before getting ride of your D300

If I were shooting for money I'd completely agree. Last summer I vacationed with my girlfriend thru eastern Europe with a DSLR over each shoulder- never again :) For the amount of time I shoot a sporting event with a 70-200 on one body while shooting with the 400 f/2.8 on a monopod I'd rather miss a bunch of shots and take another trip.

I sold my 1DMarkIIN and some glass last week and will sell the 30D and the remainder of Canon gear within the next week or two. I'm happy to be moving some of my gear that hasn't seen much use in a while.

Have you really got a 200 f2?
Those things a beasts. If the US Army equipped a rifle company with cameras with those things fitted they would shock and awe any enemy into instant submission.

If you live that long. :)
One day you will come home, the D700 will be on the table and you will be confronted with, "you didn't tell me you brought that!".

Good to hear from you Rich, I've not noticed you round much lately.

Is it really worth selling the D300 for what you'd get? I hear what you're saying about not using a 2nd body much but I guess you bought it for a reason and surely not all the reason's vanished.

I can understand why you are divesting of gear, that's an impressive investment in your hobby you made. I'd nearly bought a 300 F/2.8 myself but eventually decided I could live without crystal clear bird shots on my walls. I decided I'd spend the money on my family and put family photos on the walls.

K1W1 - Yes I do have a 200 f/2; it is an amazing piece of glass. Once you shoot with it a bit it doesn't seem like a beast though I wouldn't want to handhold it for extended periods. Now the 400 f/2.8, that is a beast.

Dread- Considering I purchased the D300 for retail when it came out I will surely be getting back a small amount of what I paid. I'm still undecided as to what to keep and what to sell.

My trade fell thru so I'm back to the beginning again. Frustrating.
