Dear Group,
I'm a newcomer to this group with a perplexing problem and hopefully some of you can give me some assistance. For 3 years, I have been utilizing Picasa (I started with Version 2 download and then was switched to Version 3 about 9 months ago. I catalogue antique medical instruments and have them arranged in groups in about 225 albums which are alphabetized. All of the images I use on these web pages are retrieved from images in "My Pictures".
Six months ago, Picasa 3 continually would send me an error message that the program was being shut down. This would occur spontaneously while I was working in Picasa and also everytime that I would click on the "back-up" data icon; so it was impossible for me to backup the data except by g mailing each album to my notebook computer which also had Picasa 3 installed on it and appeared to be working well. In addition, when I would click back on the Picasa icon on my desktop, the albums would be unalphabetized and so I would have to click back to rearrange the names alphabetically again. But each time the program was closed and I then returned to it, the albums would again be unalphabetized!
I then uninstalled Picasa 3 on my desktop computer (Dell with XP), downloaded another Picasa 3 program from the website, and restored the data files using a flash drive which I had used to obtain the noncorrupted files from my notebook program.
My Picasa program was again working well and the albums were saved in alphabetical order from one time to another, and I was able to use the backup tool to save my new data. However, the program again crashed on my hard drive, one week ago; and despite uninstalling the Picasa program from my add/remove tool and downloading another copy of Picasa 3, I still have the same problems: namely I can't keep the albums in alphabetical order and I can't use the backup command to save the data.
I tried finding some help on the Picasa website without success and apparently there have been others complaining about similar problems.
I hope that some of you can suggest how I can fix this problem because I do like Picasa; but if it is hopeless, then perhaps a similar, simple type program could be recommended. I tried finding a replacement online without success. They all seem so complicated. I need a setup where all the albums can be listed on the left-hand side of the program and then on each page, a grouping of the images can be placed with an area where several paragraphs can be typed in, similar to the box above each set of images in the Picasa program.
Sorry for being so long-winded but this has been a most vexing problem and discussions with sales people at Microcenter and photography hobbyists have not been helpful.
