For the small, amateur studio in a garage or garden shed, I can see no better studio lighting than this... http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200377296_200377296?cm_vc=C5503

It's cool temperature, rechargeable and produces a load of light. Once bought nothing ever needs replacing (aside from the rechargeable batteries).

I'm waiting for LED bulbs to increase in power so that I can use studio hotlights but with LEDs.

Home Depot has a liberal return policy. Perhaps your local store might have one or two in stock you could purchase and return after giving them a try. Be sure to post pics and a review here of how they work.

Did you ever complete the LED array you were building?

Oh, that looks interesting.

I'd have to try it though a graduated power level would be needed, i hotwired one to some other construction lights without much troubble, it'd be great if that worked for this unit as well.

4 Hours on batterys is also pretty interesting.

Yes. I did complete the LED array. Now though it seems products have come along that pretty much make what I made, redundant although mine is still best for underneath lighting.

The LEDs I used were ordinary white LEDs. These are high-output LEDs. Big difference! The technology is still in its early days but I expect these to plummet in price. Remember those 1 LED flashlights. Now they have 9 and more for less money.

I imagine you'd have to hack into the head and put a 1M potentiometer in or something like that.
