I will be taking pictures tomorrow at my son's school and will be making the end of the year slide show. 15mp seems huge for this....do you think it would be better to lower it to 8mp?
The slide show when completed will hold 3 directories, I will be adding about 200 pictures, 11/2 video and then another slide show with about 200 pictures.
Thanks!

I would shoot at 15mp as the converted jpegs should be smaller. at least on a canon, I imagine Nikon would be similar. If you crop any of the picture you will need the extra mp's

Hi Spinning, At 8mp you must be shooting in jpeg. I don't have any experience to speak of with that region of the camera. I expect you could go down to 3.7 and still have a nice slideshow. Your camera will really shine if you go SRAW2 3.8 mp. White balance is so easy with the DPP software and it will really make a difference especially if these pics will be inside. Not to mention all the other easy fixes using RAW formatting. I understand the simplicity of shooting jpeg and that will greatly decrease the processing time of producing a nice slideshow :)

There is no way I can shoot this in Raw and then do any type of editing....the pictures need to be almost straight out of the camera due to time restraints. Plus it is for 5th grade memory packet....nothing steller....I have to have 100 DVD burned by Tue....plus through an over night wedding on Sat into the mix.....I need to have the show completed by Friday night, drop it off to another mom to combine the 3 shows and then pick up on Sunday to burn. So simple. I do promise as time goes on I am going to try the raw format....but not with this!
The photos will be mainly close up candids of the kids. I am not really worrying about the lighting. I did this same thing before with my old fuji and it worked out fine.... I just wasn't sure if the files would be so huge they would take up too much of the DVD and take way too long to burn...

Yep, you have no time. Jpeg is the way to go on something like that :)
Good Luck and good shooting.

I've been using ProShow Gold for slideshows. The JPG's I use for slideshows are generally 100kb to 500kb in file size which have been resized in a batch process from full size files from a 40D. If some parents want prints after seeing the slideshow you'll have a full file to work from this way. During the batch process some PP can be applied such as sharpening if needed. With ProShow Gold I've had better luck burning an ISO image of the show and then using this to burn DVD's. Trying to burn a long slideshow directly to DVD has occasionally caused me problems of the program locking up during a burn. The ISO image file has been reliable, quick to burn a DVD, and a good way to archive a show also.
Sounds like you have a busy weekend ahead of you. Have fun!
