Had a shoot with an aspiring model called Dennis yesterday. Used my 70-200 for the shoot which performed better than expectations...

C&C welcome...

1) I wish the car wasn't there in the background. Should have moved the bench or something...This is still my favorite colour shot of him...used a white A1 size foam board as a reflector...shot in harsh sun lighting at about 5:20pm, 2 hours away from sunset...vignetting added to darken the attention grabbing car in the background...

very nice shot fais. you pointed out the obvious problem which is quite distracting. i think the PP has crushed those blacks again...his hair looks a bit like a black blob. probably cant be helped in that lighting though which works great for the rest of the shot. nice job.

I could lighten the hair a little....I was waiting for a comment cause my screen is still uncalibrated so wanted to know if the pictures was alright...I should borrow one from a friend...I'm still processing the others but this being my favorite, I edited it first!!
Thanks!! :)

2) Made him walk towards me a few times....I removed quite a few creases from his shirt. Glad that he was wearing a shirt like that which made it easy...should I make the bottom of his show darker???

I like the color look that you go for in post, I really do. The shadows are a little too contrasty.

Lesson learned, just move the bench next time. :)

Thanks!!! I always tend to give my pictures that look...dunno why!!
Couldn't do much about the shadows as the sun is quite harsh here during summer and they didn't want to shoot closer to sunset...Plus I did try a reflector but my friend who was helping wasn't really very good at reflecting...

4) Flash held by my friend on the left, blasted at 1/2 power in manual mode while the sun lit the right side. My first time with off camera flash work when it comes to portrait work and I realized I need to quickly get gels for my flash. Unfortunately the ones I found here cost $25....The guys eyes are slightly OOF as the focus is on the chin...

faisal - I really like the first 3. Did you do any sort of PP on his face in the 3rd - something looks a bit odd about his face. Otherwise I like them all but the last - like the colors in the first and second - what did you do here?

I did PP to his face in all 4. Anything particularly wrong with #3???

Just wondering what wrongs with #4...no one seems to like it...

What I did for those colours is...(All done in Lightroom with skin imperfections and minor selective levels adjustment in Photoshop)

#1
extreme amount of Temp with lots of negative Tint with plenty of recovery, fill light and blacks. No contrast or brightness with plenty of clarity and negative saturation. Add contrast through Tone curve later. Then play with HSL to tone down specific colours further....

#2
extreme amount of fill light with a little black and lots of contrast and clarity with negative saturation. Then some colour play with split toning. Lifted shadows through Tone Curve...

Something about the pose is very unflattering to me.

Thanks for the explanation of the PP - again, I like it especially in #1 and 2.
