Problem with wide agle lens and Coolpix 5400

I just prchased a Merkury Optics Wide Angle Lens and an adapter for my Coolpix 5400. Every test pic I have shot has a sort of a shadow on the bottom left of every image. I thought at first it was a shadow, but that is not the case. I have changed the menu setting to wide angle, but I can't find any other setting that might impact on this issue. Both the adapter and lens seem to fit perfectly. However I have noticed that the image in the digital display shows small rounded obstructions in the margins of it's four corners. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm guessing somewhat as I've not seen the WA attachment you are using, but your description makes it sound like the attachment was originally designed for cameras who's wide angle setting isn't as wide at the 5400's. The dark corners you describe are typical of such vignetting.
