Jeff how about having a high level section in the forums for people to provide their holiday or travel tips. If you set a high level topic at the same level as the gallery for example then people could post threads on particular destinations for locals & travelers to post specific mustn't miss locations timing & other tips etc. Not a travel advice section as such but photographic specific help to traveling photographers.

Well I'm suprised absolutely no one was interested in this :( Oh well perhaps some ideas are just not universal.

Sounds like a good idea, though I don't know if enough people would read it to generate the necessary feedback. I'd only check it about once every month, if that. It would be useful at times though. Probably the best way would be the manufacturer specific forums here or on another site.

I'd be suprised if people posted to it regularly but as places & advice/tips built up it could become a useful & simple reference source for travellers specifically for photographers in addition to all those guide books. For example I may get to go to the Australian Gold Coast in a few weeks time for a few days & some local knowledge of what to see & where/when to shoot would allow me to better fill up any spare time I get on the trip. Any of you Aussies out there got any suggestions?

Unfortunately, our Gold Coast is possibly the last place I'd choose to go to as a "tourist"! Sorry.
You might like to check out this site:
Very Gold Coast Tourism (http://www.verygoldcoast.com.au/attractions/natural-attractions/)
...for a few ideas. Try and see a bit of the sub-tropical hinterland if you can too. The Gold Coast is a lot more than just surf beaches and Surfer's Paradise (the town), which has been so overdeveloped as to resemble Acapulco! You can now lie on the beaches in the shadows from the skyscrapers to avoid sunburn LOL.
Hope this helps :)

Hmm yes I see what you mean. I looked at the Historic & Heritage tab on the link you posted & got the Hard Rock Cafe ! as the second on the list. Luckily I'll only be there for a few days before going to Canberra & then hopefully a few days holiday and back via Sydney before coming home. Trip is still to be confirmed but should give a bit more scope to explore than just the Gold Coast. So any other suggestions are very welcome.

This bloke Johnno has a tonne of photos from around Brisbane and Sydney and the eastern seaboard, with their EXIF and specific locations. He has a soft spot for beaches, lakes and waterways, but also has some classic architectural and cityscape stuff too:

Hope this gives you some ideas of the locales.

Thanks Beowulff that's very helpfull plenty to browse through there. I'm starting to look forward to this trip. Hope it comes off in the end. This is exactly what I had in mind for this thread too. It would still be nice if different places had threads of their own under this at a top level.
