I want to buy an after market rapid charger/travel charger for a Nikon EN-EL9 or EN-EL9a battery? I have found several online but am not sure which, if any, are junk. I don't want to pack the long cord and charger that came with the camera, I want one that just plugs right into the wall. I also don't want to spend more than $25.00. Any input/recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.

Why not just coil up the cord and tie it with a twister or tape?
+1. Rubberbands are your friend.

Because electrically it is a very dangerous thing to do. Having said that we all do it.

If Nikon (i.e. check their site) doesn't offer such a charger, this might entail a small risk...
I am definitely bringing the charger on my next vacation.

How so? Well, if you just wrap it up real tight like most people do then yeah. But if you coil it in a circle (the proper way) it shouldn't ever be an issue.

Don't they come out of the box folded end over end and tied with a twist-tie?

Yes, but that is definitely not the correct way to store cables. Not only will they form a memory of that configuration, but it can also damage the copper inside of the insulation by bending, rebending, etc. Coiling them in a circle will prevent both. This is coming from years in a rock band. Just try to untangle 50' and 100' mic cables that were wrapped end to end :D
