From the specs and reviews, it seems that the A200' flash doesn't pop up automatically. The flash modes don't contain "auto".

Does it mean that in the full automatic mode, I've to manually open the flash to let it fire when I feel it will be necessary ? Not very "automatic" ...

Could sb tell me if, in the automatic program mode, the A200 will notify me that I've to pop up the flash ? It's not a problem if we have to pop it up myself when the camera tells us to do so. It's a problem if my wife can't use it as a point-and-shot.

Thanks for the replies

I'd like to revive this thread.
Before getting my A200, I only used a cheap P&S with a flash and had to keep turning the flash off because there were so few times I wanted it to fire (I usually take dark shots outside or in large areas where a flash would be useless - chuckling when I see all those flashes going off in baseball stadiums, etc.).
With the A200, I have just accepted that I have to choose to have it go off (pull it up) or not (leave it down) for each and every shot. this is great for fill flashes especially. I can imagine that a novice would like the flash to go off when it's useful, but just tell them to pull up the flash when it's indoors and close up. Am I missing anything?
