i've been wanting to get into senior portraits and this one just kinda fell in my lap.

all shot with natural light. all shot with the 5d mk II and 85 f/1.8. all raw converted with Lightroom.
More from the shoot here.

Hair done by my friend Tony Greenleaf. We started out in a quiet park in McKinney, Texas...and ended up in old downtown McKinney for the rest of it. I really lucked out bc Tony is so good with hair and this girl is so photogenic and took posing direction VERY well.

1. i think this was my favorite of the shoot with number 2 being a close 2nd.

2. this was actually a candid while tony was messing with her hair. resurrected from underexposure(i shoot all manual and wasn't ready to take this shot).
ISO 100 f/2 1/125s

3. this is the first time i've used lightroom's selective adjustment brush to touch up eyes and it came in VERY handy!

All great, but #2 is the BEST! Way above the others IMO.

The others are all good, and well done, but #2 just pops. Love it.

I think #1 is a bit flat....

beautiful models....beautiful shots!!!

I like the second one best.....
I don't like the last one...makes her look like a midget due to the overexposed central area of the dress...
The dress also looks overexposed in the 5th one....

midgets are people too haha.

i was really between that shot and this one....picked that one because i figured this thread needed at least one smile.

#2 is my fav. #6-7 are my least, they are still good, but something about a senior and jailbars type doesnt match imo, and n7 is really plain when compared with all the other really cool shots.

I'd have to say they are pretty awesome man, good job.

Oh, between the midget and the non-smiling one, i'd pick the non-smiling one in terms of photo, but in terms of emotion i have to agree in her book a smile is worth more :)

I got soo used to seeing all flash portraits, that these are very refreshing :)

From these images, I'd be willing to bet if she doesn't move away too far that you'll stand a pretty fair chance of doing wedding pics for her. Nicely done.

Agreed...but when normal people look like midgets...it becomes a bit odd...

I think I prefer the other one you posted later..the smile is nice but this is a better shot overall...

I agree with Gary--the second one is really great. The first could use some more contrast. The entire set? Wow.

ok well i replaced the first with an updated edit. lemme know what y'all think. i'm trying to keep these edits strictly in lightroom.

Nice set Adam.

The only ones I'm not fond of are #7 and #8, but the rest are very nice.

But it doesn't matter what we think - has she weighed in yet?

i don't even know the girl. it was a graduation gift from tony, the hair guy. i'm just gonna use these to try and pick up more senior shoots.

i'm sure tony will let me know if she likes them or not. she's so photogenic i think they'd be happy regardless of photographer.

I like the jail pic. Great work overall though. Okay Adam, if ya get the time take one of those pics and convert the Raw file though DPP instead of lightroom. I've noticed a huge difference in the conversion quality between the two.

Nice work, amigo. I'm not a fan of the bridge shots due to the heavy cross shadowing though. I had similar stuff going on at my e-shoot on Tuesday and it frustrated the hell outta me.

i don't know man, lightroom is so freakin easy...and now with selective adjustments i hardly ever have to get into photoshop. but if i get some time, i'll make some comparisons and post up what i find.

Nick, how big a difference? Examples?

Just like Adam said, LR makes it so easy. So I convert all my RAW files to DNG now, which makes DPP useless.

adam75south
05-18-2009, 01:21 PM
crap, i convert all of mine to dng also. i guess i'll have to try it out with new pics or something.

I convert all of my RAW's to jpeg or TIFF in DPP (the new shadow/highlight sliders in DPP are really nice) and then edit my jpeg's/TIFF's in LR2. The local adjustments and ND grad tool are really nice.

I love this even if it has jail bars in it. She has gorgeous eyes and you captured them well.

I agree that #5 makes her legs look super short, #7 does too but I am easily distracted by the gorgeous shoes on her feet so the shortness isn't that bad in that pic:)

#1 and #2 are great too!!!!
