View Full Version : 16-85VR lens users
I see that there are a growing number of 16-85VR owners here.
Do you suffer from flare from the sun particularly when the sun is lower (afternoon or morning)?
I have never owned a lens that has had such bad flare. To me the standard lens hood appears to be next to useless when the sun is anything but directly above so I have been trying to find a traditionally shaped hood to replace the butterfly unit.
If it bothers u that much I'll take it off your hands :)
No problems I'll swap you for Rich's 70-200VR.

I'm not sure about flare but what I first notice is PP when shooting with D80. I think D90 correct most of PP; but I'm not really sure.

You are persistent, I will grant you that.
Is the flare problem common with that lens? I would think a different hood should help. Make a makeshift hood of your own to see if it cuts down on the flare.

Flares like an absolute bastard.
Very sharp lens though.
This is SOOC with small aperture. Note the light spillage on the left around the car trail, it's not a clean line.
Rich, sorry i didn't know enough about lens' to notice this and warn you before you bought.

I think I got mine before you. :)
I love this lens, for me it's almost perfect and when I eventually either find a hood that works or learn to look where the sun is I'll be much happier still.
