looks like you had that wonderful huge diffuser in the sky...clouds. great set. the exposure of the jump shot is spot on with just enuf SS to give us movement. the las one is corny but very well done with the lighting on the spray.

Love em : D

The exposure in the jump shot of the girl on the right looks a bit overexposed, but shes not the main focal point really.

I also really like the reflections on the first shot.

I like the first shot the best though I'm not a fan of the wet shirt...
The third ones kinda nice too, but in a funny way....

I like #1--the lighting is perfect and it really captures a certain mood. The reflections are subtle but add a lot. "

Hanging Out" does a nice job of conveying good friends celebrating in a relaxed island atmosphere.

And it might well be cliche, but I like the "hair/water flip." I'm gonna guess that the clients like that one too.

Thanks guys. That one bridesmaid looks overexposed/low contrast because of the condensation on my Sig 12-24. I tried to compensate in post but PS isn't playing nice with the Lightroom brush again. Bleh.

Some of this stuff is only cliche to us. To them it's a great photo. They don't spend their entire lives looking at photos the way we do.

Agreed....thats why whenever I get a thumbs up here, I deliver my images to the client without a single worry!!! :)

Yeah you can be pretty sure it's a good one if it gets kudos here. I wouldn't write an image off if people here don't really like it either though. That hair shot Rooz thinks is corny was the bride's idea and we kept doing it until we (pretty much) nailed it. She wanted it that bad.

True but when talking about pictures of women, corny is mostly a good thing.... ;)

dude, that first one is awesome. and hey, every photographer has to do the hair thing at some point. it's right after the rule of thirds in the handbook.

Thanks everyone. I thought I had screwed the goat somethin' fierce by the time we got to dinner. I was so mad at myself I had to leave everyone and take a walk on the beach to cool off.

Oh and adam, clear your PM box. I can't reply.

One of these days I'm gonna wipe that shitty grin off your face by making you carry all my gear through those airports. ;)

I have the theory but I seem to always lack the execution.

you're not the only one that feels that way. it's hard to be creative. used to, i would blame bad shots on not having the gear or technique, these days i seem to be out of excuses.

Creativity dies to repetition, every single time.

Want to stay creative? Don't make a job out of it.

Nope. Lackeys don't get to shoot. They schlep my crap. Nothing more. :D :p

Seriously though if I get more of these I'm insisting on more days off and direct flights.

Thankfully there's nothing repetitious about wedding photography - at least not the way I do 'em. I'll never make a job out of it that way. My ass does get kicked at each and every wedding though - mostly because I refuse to stand in one place. I spend a lot of time running, believe it or not. That, and hanging off of things:

It makes me smile to read the self critical views here. Some of the photographs on this forum are up there with the best I've ever seen. So long as you guys feel you can do better you will. As for us mere mortals then we know we can do better so there's no point in worrying about it just get on & improve. Following threads on here picking up hints tips & creative ideas that are so generously shared is a really good & enjoyable way to improve. Keep it up guys & in cdi's words let the ass kicking continue.

My initial response was "How the hell did you get the bride to lie down in the water ?"......but further reading indicated she was more than willing to get wet :)

Hah yeah it was established last year that she'd be jumping in the water. I had that "quickie" shot planned out since then as well.
