I’m looking for a replacement for a canon s60 that I l like but is starting to show a pink line at the top of the image. I don’t remember spending $400 on the s60 but it was a while ago. I can’t spend that now. Budget $200ish

Features: wide angle

How many megapixels will suffice for you? 6-8

* What optical zoom will you need? standard is fine, would use more if it was there

* How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10) top importance

Do you care for manual controls? I’d like it but I am willing to give that up. I have a rebel xti. this camera is my keep with me all the time camera

General Usage

* What will you generally use the camera for? keep with me all the time – whatever comes up. Daily shots of sky. photos of public bathrooms, travel, reference material for art work

* Will you be making big prints of your photos or not? not likely

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos? yes

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos? no

Miscellaneous

Are there particular brands you like or hate? i like canon but I could be convinced to get something else

Are there particular models you already have in mind??? Panasonic TZ5, canon sd870is

Hi Emery:

My wife has a Panasonic TZ5. It is a very nice camera with lots of features but for one that has owned a camera with shutter and aperture priority modes, you might find it a bit limiting.

You might want to consider a couple of other Panasonics that are in your price range.

The FX500 sells for $200, has "manual" exposure controls and a very nice focal range of 25 - 125 mm (equiv.).

The FX150 sells for $210, has "manual" exposure controls, a nice focal range of 28-100mm (equiv), has a larger sensor and can capture raw data for your exposures should you choose to utilize that feature.

The camera you have been using came out five years ago. I am sure that you will be happy with just about any new model due to improvements made since 2004.

While I have used my wife's TZ5 and enjoy it quite a bit, I would recommend you consider seriously the FX500.

Have a good day.

For interiors I would suggest a Fujifilm F100fd or Nikon S610. Here is a link to another thread on compacts for low light -
