Panasonic G1 perhaps?

Hi,

After 1 year of searching for the perfect point and shoot I'm still looking. I have a 3 year old and need something fast. I'm just taking pics of my child, pets, on vacation... inside, outside, not in the dark...
What do you think of the Panasonic G1 for me? I'm just debating if it's something that I would throw into my handbag. It will fit, but will I feel comfortable taking it to the beach, to the city when I visit friends... I hear it's fast!
Any thoughts? I have a big issue with red eye which my old Nikon P&S 5800 never gets and it's not set on red eye reduction (it's too slow and only 4MP). Lots of Canon's and Sony's have a big problem with red eye reduction from what I read.

Based on the sample photos I've seen and the reviews I've read, the G1 seems like a great camera. Image quality is at least the equal of the other cameras in its price range. There's a new version, the GH1, which has video capability, which the G1 does not have.
