View Full Version : Not a raizor sharp display TZ6/ZS1 at play back 100%

I'm a proud owner of a TZ6/ZS1, but after a few days I noticed a issue regarding the quality of the display when playing back the photos. The photos itself are razor sharp, I can see that at my computer. The strange thing is that the photos doesn't look very sharp at 100%, but when I zoom in the picture pops up very sharply! The display itself is sharp enough to judge the quality of the photo, but not at 100%. I think that the internal processor computes a preview with a wrong resolution so it is ugly rendered, and when zooming the processor chooses the right resolution.
I'm hope it's a bug that Panasonic can easily solve, firmware version is 1.0.
Does someone recognize this problem?

It's a hardware problem not a software one. The LCD only has so many pixels. Showing the whole shot on the screen, it has to merge many pixels into the size of one pixel for the small camera display. When you zoom in you get less pixels crammed into a small space so it seems sharper because the LCD can show more detail.

I don't agree it's hardware, of course the processor has to merge pixels, but that is also the case when I zoom in. At every zoom-level the processor has to deal with this, and it does it without problems (except 100%).
I have an iPhone with a relative small screen, but it displays photos very sharp, not depending an the size of the original photo. My FZ8 with approx. the same size of display shows pictures "raisor sharp" at every zoom level (ok, above 16 times the picture quality itself gives up).
So I'm pretty certain it''s software, I even think what's causing the bug: the TZ6 is very familiar to the FZ7 which uses a slightly higher resolution display, I think the processor calculates by mistake the TZ7 display-image...?

Is there a camera store near you where you can test the LCD of a demo TZ7 (ZS3) and perhaps another TZ6 (ZS1)? You'll find out if the other TZ6 has the same issue.
If it does & the TZ7's LCD looks good, if you still can, you could return your TZ6 & get the TZ7. Unless you can live with the "flawed" LCD, hoping that Panasonic releases a firmware update in the future to correct it.

I was right! Panasonic placed totday (23 april) a firmware update (v1.1) solving the following issues:
1. The quality of viewing image (still image) is improved.
2. Noise of auto focusing (Quick AF) is reduced during action.
