What's going on with my D40? Is my sensor failing? This pic was taken using the 55-200 VR. This little spot is in all my pics I took on vacation.

Looks like it may be a hot pixel.
Ive seen this a few different times here.. Isnt it like a line of dead/hot pixels? I do see a faint greenish line all the way down from the hot pixel.

Yup there is a line coming down from it. Is there any way to fix this?
hot pixels aren't anything new but that line is pretty bad. if its under warranty you;re fine, if not, you may be unlucky enuf to have a sensor problem that needs to be addressed by Nikon service.

I don't think it's under warranty I bought it in 2007. I did take it on vacation this past week and it went thru the airport security scanner, could that have caused this problem?

No it's a camera sensor problem and nothing to do with scanners.

Anyone know about how much it would cost to have it fixed by Nikon? Or any place I can buy a D40 body with out the kit lens?

If worst comes to worst, you can pick up a refurbished or demo D40 body only at Cameta Camera's Ebay store.
check out amazon? they might have a replacement part for a cheap price
Sensors for DSLR's are not available at the retail level. You would never find this on Amazon or any other reseller.
The only option for a do it yourself repair would be to take a punt on a cheap unit on ebay and hope that you can make one working camera out of two.
