Great camera, however low light focusing, like many other cameras, could be better. Try HyperFocal settings. The following image was taken in complete darkness. This is only one of a bunch I've tried, and all of them came out sharp and well exposed, this at ISO 50.
Here are the settings:
AV mode
set to f5.6
manual focus to ~3 feet
Lens set to no zoom
ISO 50
Flash on
Customize seetings, sharpness to full
Go to menu and save as custom setting
This will give you clear shots from 3 feet to infinity. Because this is now the custom setting you can easily take the S1 out and point and shoot in dark conditions, and this instantly.
