Because I have seen NX2 and this is a nikon forum I decided to ask here ...I want to start shooting in Raw for some of those shots U know you want to keep and hope you got the WB right and to fix small imperfections ...I don't want to get real involved heavily in PP work but want something there when I need it !! I don't have a budget to by two or three programs to help me out ...so if you guys were doing this ...(yes I know everyone will have an opinion cause of what they may be use too) which would it be ...Lightroom2 or NX2 ...and just want to add a big thank you to all who respond ..

Kind of different programs IMO.
I only played with the trial of NX, but it gave plenty of flexibility for a single capture. I enjoyed the results and it was easy to use.
LR is more for batches, large shoots, and portfolio management. LR can play with individual pictures of course, but thats Photoshop's main goal.
Lightroom is much more stable in my experience, is faster and offers a wider range of options as mentioned (it also allows cataloguing and uploading directly to web hosting sites). But for every LR user there is an NX user who will swear by it.
It's horses for courses and you need to make up your own mind and the way to do that is download the free trial version of each program and try it out with your pictures on your PC.
Personal preference. Give them both a try, I believe LR has a trial and I know NX does.
Dont get it confused though, NX can do batch processing just like LR can. Judging from comments on LR Vs NX, it appears that alot of the LR users here, dont realise the options NX has, such as batch, easy folder navigation and cataloguing.
And im my opinion, NX is faster than LR, atleast with the latest release.

I find NX slower than Lightroom on my PC. But then again ive only tried NX 1.x and not 2.x which i've been told is faster.
I currently use Lightroom for photo management and tweaks, its UI i find is very streamlined, but if i want to really capitalise on something like NX's great U-point technology for really tweaking only specific parts of an image then I use that too. NX 1.x and Lightroom 2.x alone don't offer me sufficient power to do it all in one, so i combined them together, if i tried NX 2 i may change my mind, but reviews didn't convince me that NX 2 was that big a leap forward over 1.x to justify paying for an upgrade.
if you dont have a fast PC with loads of ram then forget NX2. its miles slower than LR. on an older PC without a fast processor its downright smash-the-living-shit-out-of-your-pc-and-throw-it-out-de-window slow.

Like has been stated you're better off trying both programs out, but then again if you're unfamiliar with post processing... then it may be hard to figure out which would work better for you. I'm partial to photoshop but that has more to do with my style of editing... I bring this up because Lightroom is actually better suited for 85% of editing tasks yet I still like photoshop. I've tried NX and NX2 and even though I have plugins that utilize U-Point technology I find NX and Photoshop somewhat archaic in comparison to LR. And I' m sure you'll find others who feel differently

I prefer Lightroom, NX was slow for me as well and I have a decent spec computer. I love how fast Lightroom remains even if you have hundreds of photos in the catalogue and I also like keeping them organised with metadata so I can search through them using keywords.
Also I hardly open photoshop these days unless its for specialised editing such as cloning. Almost everything can be done right there in Lightroom.
