Right, so it's apparent that my setup with the sb-600 isn't going to work with regular CLS, so I've decided to grab a trigger.

I've read some negative things about the V2 triggers, but I don't do portrait photography, so miss firing isn't a HUGE issue. As long as they offer more range in bright outdoor conditions than CLS.

Would it be worth my while getting a set? US$ 50 is pretty much my budget on a trigger and most of the bigger name triggers fall out of that range.

Any okay triggers fall into my budget?

Forget the V2, the new V4 have just come out and appear to be much more reliable and have increased distance.

Where can one order them? I don't see them on Gadget Infinity

r3g, just got a set of Alien Bees cybersyncs and he's had good success with them. And he had the cactus V2 triggers might want to check with him and see if he wants to get rid of them.

I too switched from V2's to AlienBees. I have the transmitter and two receivers. I lost the back to one of the receivers, but a small piece of scotch tape does the job well. I also have a couple extra batteries but I need to find them. PM if you want em.

As I said in the PM dont bother with Cactus triggers.. I cant speak for the V4 but the V2s will be just as crappy if not more than the luck your having with CLS. Get CyberSyncs and never have to worry about reliability again. Only thing those V2s are good for are PC Sync adapters..

Gadget infinity has taken them off the site until they get more stock in. The first order on the release date was sold out instantly. Just do a google search on the Cactus V4 and you can see so far that they're doing better than the older V2. If the V4 don't work out for me then I'll be waiting for the radiopopper jrx, as I don't want to pay the stupid international surcharge for the cybersyncs and the expensive postage.

how much is the surcharge and who adds it? And is shipping expensive because of actual cost of shipping or is it because they jack up the price because it's international?

When I asked them about pricing for shipping and the surcharge they said it's $25 surcharge and about $60 postage. Plus the price of triggers and then convert to the Aussie dollar. Paying over $100AUD for nothing other than getting it here is ridiculous.

Yeah, that's what turned me off also about cybersyncs. I was about to order when they gave me the quotation with the surcharge 25USD on top of shipping cost.

So I decided to wait for the latest PW's if the issues will be ironed out. For the mean time, I am enjoying using the CTR-301 from YN. I did not have any single misfire up to now. They have the new version now with PC sync port.

I completely agree. I have a pair of the V2's (used them with my old D50 since it wasn't CLS compatible with the SB 600), and the misfire rate was incredibly annoying (they would fire less than half the time). I'm happy with CLS now, but I may get some alienbees in the future because CLS is useless outdoors (especially when it is not dark).

Whew, that is steep... and a ripoff if it's not for express service:
6-10 Days - Priority MailŪ International Small Flat-Rate Box $12.30
5 Days - Express MailŪ International $29.90

Down Under needs an American Exchange point.
