I've just purchased PS Elements 3.0 (Mac) and want an additional noise reduction package (plug-in). I have the demo of both NeatImage and NoiseNinja and it seems to me that NoiseNinja is perhaps more robust or full-featured and I seemed to get better INITIAL results from NoiseNinja. However, admittedly, I have not had an opportunity to delve into either of them very deeply and my printing options are limited due to demo limitations. Any pros or cons of either that I may not have uncovered yet?

Thanks,
Paul

Check out PureImage from www.mediachance.com as well.

hey obi, how do you reduce the amount/strength of noise reduction applied to an image in NeatImage? for some reason i can't get the advanced user instructions to load/display. my problem is that i when i apply it to skies, sometimes it is too strong and it creates obvious steps in color/tone.

i use noise ninja in pscs, but dont bother with neat image in pscs. i use the actual applicatioon. i believe my version is 4.0 pro. i go to the noise filter settings tab, there i can fine tune it.

Thanks all. Obi, is there a difference in NeatImage's functionality if it's used as a plug-in vs. a stand alone app?

And Zoomer, I checked out PureImage at the web site and it appears Windows only. I'm on a Mac and didn't see a Mac version mentioned.

From what I remember, the plugin doesn't support the generation of camera profiles like the standalone version. Of course one also doesn't have the batching, either.

I have used NeatImage Pro+ with great success, and the plugin integrates well with layered Photoshop behavior.

One thing to keep in mind when comparing these products is that it is very hard to do a proper comparison - so draw from the comparisons you see posted on the internet with that in mind. Noise reduction is a complex algorithm, and both products offer a large number of adjustments and settings. These all contribute to the overall "quality" of the post-NR image. Comparing both products on the basis of the "default" settings is not particularly useful, as most images require slight differences in how the NR is tuned (for each app).

You'll probably find that both products are able to achieve a very similar degree and quality of noise reduction, given the appropriate settings for the image content!

Thank you. Helpful information. And by the way, great web site!
