A very naughty person posted a link to a review of a non DSLR non Nikon camera the other day. Some of you may have noticed some other information on the same page.

For those who didn't Joe McNally has a new book out that looks rather interesting.

First link (original) here (http://www.photographyblog.com/news/the_hot_shoe_diaries_by_joe_mcnally/).

Second link (Publisher) here (http://www.peachpit.com/press/press_releases_detail.aspx?promo=136954).

Third link (Reselle) here (http://www.amazon.com/Hot-Shoe-Diaries-Flashes-Voices/dp/0321580141).

I think I'll be waiting until it sells here, but I'm definitely buying it.

He's doing a workshop here in Charleston and I'm 90% sold on doing it.
$800 is nothing to sneeze at.

Chances are Borders will have it fairly soon. I might go into one and ask in the next couple of days otherwise I guess it's the Amazon account getting another workout.

i think it worked at around the $55 dollar AUD mark shipped. its not gonna be much cheaper locally if and when they get it in.

I doubt whether there would be a big difference in price although I have had some surprises at Borders with this sort of book being cheaper than importing it directly. There is at least 40% mark up on books at retail and for stuff Borders bring in themselves the lower cost makes a big difference at the check out counter.

Yeah Borders has a UK branch, and if Amazon UK prices are anything to go by you can pick it up in the UK for $25A incl delivery so hopefully they could offer similar in Oz.

The Barnes and Noble near my home shows it in stock now. I put in an online reservation and will go pick it up soon. First book I've been excited about in a long time!

According to dymocks and penguin australia it's going to cost $39.95. So I think I'll just wait. Let us know if borders will have it soon.

How much of this book will apply to those of us who don't use CLS? Because I'd really like to pick it up.

If you read the user reviews on the Amazon link I attached at the beginning of the thread you will see that it appears to be useful to everybody who uses flashes (non denominational was the term used) but obviously it will be most useful to Nikon system users.

I'm about 50 pages into it so far and I'm loving it. Maybe I'm just a fan of his funny quirks though ;) I must say he sets his camera up quite a bit differently than I do. Looks like I'll be trying some different settings this weekend.

This book has become a huge inspiration to me actually. I highly recommend all Nikon, and especially CLS shooters get it.

Good to hear, I've definitely added it to my wishlist. I think I'll check and see if I can find it locally this weekend.

have now read it twice. his style is so easy going and easy to read. the guy has no pretenses, nor is it written in a tutorial type way. its just a bunch of ideas and photos and what he was thinking about achieving when he took them. classic said it bestabove...hes an inspiration. he makes me want to take pictures, he makes me want to be better. the bloke is just a LEGEND. compare this to the david hobby strobist dvd's...they made me want to fall asleep.

i am just completely mesmerised by his work and use of light.

I couldn't agree more with you guys. I just picked up this book last weekend at B&N for $31.99 I believe (even though it's listed as $39.99 - I know Borders sells it more). I'm only in the first few chapters and I'm still digesting all the info that I've read so far. But I'm really getting into using multiple speedlites and learning how to use them effectively.

Just got done with a meet and greet/seminar with Joe and got him to sign and personalize my copy of The Hot Shoe Diaries.
This guy is hilarious and doesn't take himself too seriously!
He started off the seminar with saying: "I've been fired from every job I've ever had" :D

He had a lot of insight and advice to give me on a personal level; kudos to a leader in our community.
