I know what you mean Tim it was pretty busy then. The panasonic thread was often the most viewed. The G1 just doesn't seem to be creating the interest here. I have just finally sold my FZ20 as I just didn't use it. I must say though it was quite a wrench to let it go. Even after a year with a dslr I'm still not sure it was the right thing to do. Anyway it only went to my sister so if she gets fed up with it I could always get it back;). Maybe Panasonic should add a G1 EVF to say an FZ50 & include the constant f2.8 of the FZ20 & launch a new superzoom. I'm sure it would sell in droves. Might hit G1 sales though I guess but so what it would still be making profit for them. If they don't I'm sure that someone else will produce a similar combination soon.

i think panasonic simply hit the limit of what they could do within the basic design of the fz50. it was a non-telescoping 420mm (equiv.) LEICA zoom strapped onto a 7.18 x 5.32 mm sensor. personally, i would have taken fewer pixels and better low light performance or constant f2.8. they could have sold it as a fz40 or something.

The only FZ with the best design was the FZ10 after that it was slowly down hill with each new generation. I am still using my first purchase and acquired a second low mileage FZ10 for backup.

Ah yes; agree totally...

The only FZ with the best design was the FZ10, after that it was slowly down hill with each new generation. I am still using my first purchase and acquired a second low mileage FZ10 for backup.

I bought the FZ10 way back when — for $900 LOL — and I'm sorry (now) that I ever sold it. For a 4MP sensor it produced fabulous images up to ISO200, and yet thereafter, Panasonic seemed to misplace their recipe for noise reduction.

Its constant ƒ2.8 was a bonus that I didn't (unfortunately) recognise at that time for what it was worth — in comparison to today's relatively slow tele lenses.

Do you happen to know if Panasonic changed the third-party manufacturer of their sensors from the FZ20 onwards, or which company actually produced their sensors?

Cheers :)
