1st- Everytime I upload to LR, the pictures look great in the thumbnails, but when I click on them the become really cold and flat. It's like the setting are getting overridden by LR settings or something. I shoot in RAW with Auto WB, but is that the prob?
2nd- The D40x sync speed is 1/200, yet I have taken LOTS of pics with the new AlienBee CS's at 1/250th with absolutely no problems. Why? The Cactus' wouldn't ever THINK about doing that- if they fired at all lol.

The answer to the first question is an embedded jpg within the raw file which is viewed initially as a quickview until the raw file has loaded.
The camera is tricked into thinking there is no flash, I can shoot at any shutter speed with the skyport triggers.

The answer for #1 is to download the Nikon Presets you can get for LR. Then apply the same preset you use in your camera's Picture Control, otherwise #1 will happen always. It's not a defect, it's just Nikon products automatically apply Picture Control adjustments, Lightroom doesn't. You then have the option of applying the preset whenever you import photos in the future into LR too to automate the process!
EDIT: Can grab presets from here - http://www.prophotoshow.net/blog/2007/11/09/lightroom-presets-the-ultimate-free-list/
I imagine the D200/D300 ones would work fine with the D40x photos too, but you can experiment with whats available and see if it delivers the same results.

Thanks guys! The no flash thing makes sense. So if the flash can keep up, the shutter speed can be set to whatever. I'll try those presets. Thanks again!

If you are using Lightroom 2.2 or 2.3 the presets are already included are are accessible in the develop module. There is no need to download third party ones. Lightroom will only show presets that relate to the camera that took the images down towards the bottom right of the develop options.
