The vignetting is strange, it's not even fully wide (16mm) and I have never seen it before at any focal length.
No I did not alter the lens hood between shots.
wierd. it doesn't look like your typical vignetting to me. it looks as if the lens caught the far corners of the actual hood or some other shadow/ obstruction, rather than any light fall off. the top right especially looks solid black for the most part. cant explain that. freakin sharp as all hell though, damn.
That is what has me beat it's not usual vignetting. I've tried to recreate it but can't so I guess it's just one of life's mysteries.
I must do something about the first shot I love the dirt coming off the tracks
real easy to clone that out. if you dont have photoshop send it over. is it just the small size or is that looking razor sharp to you aswell ?

I know i have that happen sometimes on the 10-20 if the hood isn't all the way clicked in. the second shot is zoomed in 4mm more which probably just past the edge of the hood

That's what I would have thought but I didn't adjust the hood all day and many of the other shots were wider with no vignetting. As I said I just think that it's one of those mysteries.
cant possibly be the hood itself at 22mm on a 16mm wide end lens. chalk it down to feakish unexplained shadow.

I'm thinking the bottom corner darkening is part of the shadow of the tree there, and the top corner maybe a finger or strap got in the way?

I think thats a great call.
Logical but not correct, no trees or large objects in the area that would have caused a shadow and I always wrap the camera strap around my right wrist.

There does appear to be a tree shadow in the bottom left corner though... or atleast something that resembles a tree.
i thnk its the boogie man.

I think it's ASIO casting a light on your pix. These days who knows huh?:confused::(:D
Nice and sharp image, good colours and all. I remember when I originally made a comment re. 16-85 VR when it first came out... you guys said it was over priced. Now everyone has one except me? LOL

Looks too sharp to be a finger, and usually when my finger blocks the lens, it has a pink border.
Maybe it is an aperture blade inside the lens, or something inside the lens that didn't move fast enough if your focus mode is AF-C or AF-A.

Not me - if it was a stop faster I would be all over it, but even before the recent price rises it struck me as not quite enough lens for just a bit too much money so I instead plumped for a "used" 18-105VR that I picked up "cheap" on the big auction site from someone who had bought a D90 kit before it became available body only... the money I saved on that deal has gone into my 17-55mm f/2.8 savings fund - still a way to go before I can afford that though

I still think that it's over priced but for me it's virtually the perfect focal length to be on my camera 95% of the time so after lots of thought I plonked the cash and haven't regretted it. It would be nice if it were constant f2.8 or 10-85mm or any one of several other combinations but it's what is available now and I'm happy with mine now that I have forgotten the pain of the dollars which pale in insignificance now SWMBO is car shopping again. :D

I was just reading the reviews on B&H, a couple of guys described as pros noted vignetting as an issue.
"Weddings, travel, stock. This is a good walkaround lens. It's sharp, but suffers from more pincushion and barrel distortion than I think it should. Vignetting is also pretty glaring at certain apertures and focal lengths."

Pro tossers perhaps?
I hadn't reallised you picked one up K1W1 - since your lenses aren't listed in your sig. Pretty happy now you're forgotting the pain then - glad.
Couldn't be a hat could it?
