I posted these on a local forum but thought I would post here for some more feedback, if you would be so kind. :)

I've got a friend who works for a TV station and used another friends WRX in an ad he was shooting. Well, the WRX owner saw they had a cornerless studio so rang me Friday and said one and only opertunity, Monday between 11AM and 3PM, keen? Of course I couldn't say no.

Well, the studio is designed for TV cameras, not still stuff, so there are no false ceilings or anything like that (so some reflections were unavoidable). Also, they haven't used it for a few years and the staff just use it to play cricket in when they are bored, haha. As a result most of the lights have been pulled out of it.

So anyhow, I made do with what we had and came up with some alright results considering. I'd never done full-scale studio stuff before so it was a HUGE learning curve. No doubt with more time in there I could have done some things better, but all in all the results weren't too bad.

Here are 4 setup shots to give you an idea of what I was working with. They are dirty mobile phone photos stiched together so no critique on these :p.

The studio. You can see the 'green-screen' on the right for when they are doing news broadcasts and the like.

It is a noise-insulated room inside a building. With the door closed it was REALLY hot and crazy quiet. The D300 shutter sounded like a door slamming! The entry is really good and even the lowest cars could get in there. I am in negotiations to getting access to it in the future, but as my mate is leaving for the UK in a few weeks I think this is a once-only.

This is the lighting board. You plug the lights into the grantries overhead and then that number corresponds here. Plenty of options, but not many lights to choose from. Thankfully they were all the same colour temperature though.

And 2 of the edited photos. I couldn't help myself and edited these on the laptop, the WB is just a touch off but I can deal with that. The background isn't perfectly white either as it wasn't in the studio.

The first shot is a little dark on the drivers-side front corner but we'd run out of lights so I had to use the small spot light you can see in the setup shots.

I would have liked to have made the interior lighter, but am not sure on how I would have gone about that. I will post more as I edit them over the next week or so, but comments/critique on these would be appreciated.

That's a great opportunity to get some experience under your belt.
Considering your lighting options and experience, I'd say you did outstanding.

ummmm...i gotta tell ya...i'm a little stunned at these. if i saw these in a magazine they would look right at home. i prefer the wheel to be slightly turned in on the head on shot. but thats personal preference. i've always loved your stuff and this is no different.

for some reason, I really prefer the 2nd shot. There are some reflections in the boot-lid and rear window but they are not distracting at all. Well done.

This would have been a great time for a gigantic softbox... I saw one used for a car shoot, man do they work great. These are really working regardless great job for a first attempt!

These look spectacular to me! I like the second one best, but both look great!

So jealous of that studio, I'd love to have access to something like that!

Those wheels and those angles make it look like a toy car :( also with the massive amount of lighting you had available, I'm surprised at the amount of hot spots you have on the car. TBH I like the first setup shot the best

also the green on the wheel reflecting from the green screen.

ok enough nit picking lol
