I was going to add my pictures to the Nikon Picture of the Day thread, but once again I go to look at the pictures and my pictures do not belong there. (They are just not as professional looking as the pictures there, IMHO.)
Anyway, Happy Purim to my Jewish friends here, and to my non-Jewish friends, this is our day to dress up and have fun.
My two younger girls were dressed up as Queen Esther, the heroine of the story.
And yes, I made their dresses. (Why do you think I haven't been taking pictures lately ... been sewing instead.)

My little one loves ice cream:

Wearing my hat:

(I didn't put the pictures of me ... how do you photo shop out a double chin???)
My other daughter finally agreed to be photographed:

Thanks for looking. I like the first ice cream one, since the focus was on the spoon, and she was in the back ground.

Youre too hard on yourself. Ive seen some great images from you on here!
If I may, to me, the faces are just a tad too red, which is very easy to "fix".
As for the double chin, I guess it depends on the angle and the lighting, but I usualy use the burn tool in Photoshop to darken under the chin and make it look like a natural shadow.(looking back now, I think you were joking? My bad!)
Oh and btw, you did a wonderful job on the dresses!

Those are great Leah, and the dressess are almost as adorable as the girls. :)
btw: did you ever check to see if AF-area mode was the reason you couldn't move your focus point? I left a note for you in your last thread. when you mentioned having problems.
i think the photos look wonderful. i just adore you're little girl, she is a stunner. af-a mode means the camera selects the AF point. remove it immediately. i'd leave it on af-s or af-c mode with moving kids.
as jason mentioned, they look a little hot on the red so my first guess would be that you are shooting in vivid mode and using a cooler wb. the reason i say that is cos apart from the reds, the shots look a little cool, (#2/3 especially), so the wb is on a cool setting but the super saturated reds indicate a vivid picture style setting.
i always love getting an insight into your family leah.
I think you other daughter should allow herself to be photographed more often.
Thanks for sharing.

Couldn't move the focus point on the 11 point area? I did that many times ... One of the reasons that happens is you accidently push the lock button which is very close to the focus point selection wheel.
Any of these images can be posted on POTD thread Leah.
tim i think what X is saying is that leah is shooting in af-a mode whereby you cant select the af point.

I'm refering to where you set 3D tracking on the D90 not sure if it's the same on the D300. But I'm thinking it should be.
There's a menu option under Custom Settings/autofocus/A-1 = 'AF-area mode'.
And there are four available modes
1)Single point
2)Dynamic area
3)Auto - area
4)3D tracking
If it's set to Auto - area no focus point is selected when you look through the viewfinder. Once you depress the shutter it decides what point you want. It's a real pain in the arse I have no idea why Nikon would ship it with that option selected. Other than forceing you read the manual to figure out how to deactivate it! It seemed a little counter intuitive to me.

Uh, I wish I was joking about the double chin Jason. It is all the goodies I bake.
Soo, I found this "secret" in one of the photography magazines, and haven't exactly mastered it yet. Not sure if you remember, but I am plagued with yellow pictures 90% of the time because my pictures are indoors. I have tried all the auto settings, those little light bulbs and I forgot what else. The pictures are always yellow. So I read that if you use kelvin, you can adjust it to fix the yellow by making them more blue. Sometimes I go too far over. the thing is, on my computer, it doesn't look terribly blue. (Running Linux, so the calibrating software isn't compatible; already looked into it.)
Sooo, here ya go, me looking nice and fat (thanks to my daughter for taking this lovely shot):

(I should have had her stand up, and I should have taken a minute to crop it a drop.)
And, my sick sense of humor. Guess who told her to do this?????

I haven't seen any post from you for quite a while Benjamin. And I notice you upgraded to Nikon D80 too. Great stuff! And where are the shots from your Nikon mate?

Nice shot of yourself too Leah, you look fine.
Don't be too hard on yourself, I suspect most of us photographers aren't exactly oil painting material ourselves.
