View Full Version : A guide to flashing the Nikon way.
Photo.Net has a nice article (link here) (http://photo.net/equipment/nikon/guide-to-ttl-flashes/) it covers everything from the SB-400 to the SB-900 all in one place.

Great link, thanks alot.
Any lingering desire I had to get the 900 disappeared when I saw how big it was. Its one thing to read about how its bigger, its another to see it and be concerned whether or not it will cause some sort of solar eclipse.
Since 99% of the photos I take with a flash are in my house, Im going to start with the 600. If I find myself needing a flash when I take my camera to other places I might pick up a 400 as well.

That is a great link.
Really puts into perspective how much of a beast the SB-900 is seeing it mounted on that D300. I think if I really had my way and got the Nikkor 17-55 and the SB-900, my total weight would nearly double over my Tamron 17-50 and SB-600, which is a pretty lightweight setup.
you;re right VR. and i;d add the grip to that weight cos without the grip you would find that setup quite uncomfortable. the grip makes it much easier to hold and manouvre around.

Thanks for the post/info K1W1. Reading this makes me glad I have my SB-800's. I just can't see myself wanting/needing the size/weight of the 900. And if I'm reading that page right, the 800 has a better guide #. Not sure if that translates directly into "power" (since the 900 seems to be more efficient), but it's nice to know the 900 isn't a big upgrade (if at all) in that respect.
I haven't had a problem with my 800's. Ever. I wish they would keep producing them.
Oh, and the most important piece of info (for me) I got out of this article is how to unlock my 800's :D haha
