View Full Version : Another Circuit City "hot deal"

I just had a look at Circuit City's closing down sale. They had a 320GB Toshiba portable hard drive - they had a stack of them. Horribly overpriced. They said "original price $139.95" while I can distinctly remember them being $89.95 in January. Then they had their 50% off "deal" for $69.95. I can get them for $69.95 online with a warranty. Circuit City stuff has no warranty seeing as they're going out of business and everything is sold as-is so no returns if it's been dropped down the stairs a few times and is broken when you open the box.

I'd recommend the Circuit City closing down "sale" as being rather good to avoid. Maybe on the last day they'll have some genuine reductions. For an unknown quantity such as a disk drive that might well be broken and has no guarantee, I'd say $6.95 would be too much.

Hahaha yeah these guys are a f**king joke. I just went into my local circuit city yesterday, who is advertising 4 days left on the sale. They had absolute SHIT in there and most of it was maximum 40% off.

I saw an open box display model 42 inch LCD TV there that was beat to shit. There were scratches all over it. It had some inflated "original price" and they were selling it for 40% off that. The end price was close to what you could get it for at Costco brand new. The store was mostly cleared out too! I can't believe that suckers are actually falling for this "sale". Ughhh.

Lol. That's been the whole thing. No warranty, over-priced and lying about the alleged reductions. Mind, they weren't much better IMO before they went bust.

Well, I popped in yesterday and virtually everything had gone. It was all so horribly overpriced, too. No way would I ever willingly pay over the odds for something that had no warranty.

They had a floor model D40 (with lens) for $320. It was the last one left and didn't come with a book. That was the best deal I found there.

Obviously people are just too lazy to price compare and are willing to take what they are told as GOSPEL. In these times, where funds are so uncertain ... everyone would be better served to take another few minutes to go online and check.

I suspect this predatory nature will only get worse in weeks and months to come.

BUYER BEWARE ... and guard that wallet.

All I could see was battered half-price laptops that looked like they were about to fail, plus some doddery old printers and a stack of pocket hard drives that were about what I'd pay online.

They have a strict no return policy for these clearance stores. One poor guy couldn't resist a sale on something like a 50" lcd tv for $1200 un-opened box. He's not allowed to open the box, you see where this is going. I don't know if all these numbers are right, but I do know the deals was not an easy one to pass up. Well he opens the box and sure enough the screen is cracked to hell and back. Surprise honey!

LOL. I would never buy a 1200 anything without being able to take it back if it messed up. The CC by my house had a bunch of digital cameras, but they were only 15% off when I went. Not a big savings to me.

They had a model 1200 (with lens) for $199. That was the best deal I found there.

Lol. With no chance of returning something that broke within the warranty period, there's no chance I'd buy it - unless it was about 1% of its original price. Any more than that and it's too much money to risk!
