My newly revamped website is live. I opted to use a much cleaner layout this time around.

I did this one myself, as it was a very simple concept and most of the web designers I know laughed at the idea of such a simple layout. They all wanted to do some wildly fancy flash creation, while I just wanted something clean, that puts the focus on the images. I stuck to my concept and here it is, exactly as I envisioned it in my mind.

Let me know what you think. The slideshow takes a few seconds to load up the first time, just so you know.

Peace.

Did you do it on a Mac? It just has a Apple look about it to me.

On Australia's excuse for ADSL it's slow but seems to work okay I do like the clean look but I would like to be able to go to thumbnails or an index or somewhere where I could select any pictures I wanted to look at again without having to go through the entire slideshow. If that feature is there I didn't see it.

That's pretty cool Fiasco, what did you use for the slideshow?

Yeah i think its simple but very effective presentation, only other C&C id offer is some of the images although interesting are overexposed so may not be ideal for use in a portfolio, but that's imo anyhow!

Thanks for the feedback fellas.

K1W1 yes I did it on my macbook. I used Lightroom, Photoshop and Dreamweaver to put it all together.

I would have done it the same way even if I had used a pc though. I wanted to do this layout since my pc days, but I let someone else do it and I was okay with what they came up with at the time. Then I used Shockfolio for 6 months, but the image load times, and the fact that I saw so many other sites with the same generic Shockfolio layout made me want to re-work the site myself.

XaiLo, for the slideshow I used Autoviewer which comes built into Lightroom 2, I tweaked it to my liking and simply exported it direct from Lightroom. Then embedded the flash file into my page in Dreamweaver.

Cyberwlf, thanks. I'll take that into account.

it looks fantastic. i love the simplicity of it. the white sets off the vibranncy and colours.

its not centred on my screen though. there is alot of room underneath the slideshow. i'd like to see a little tiny bit more room between your logo/ header and the slidewhow.

Thanks Rooz!

I'll have to look into that centering issue later. What is your monitor resolution?

Looks nice, I'd suggest thumbnails once your photo collection on your website grows larger.

Rooz,

I have tried to correct the vertical alignment, and although I think I had the html code spot on, it just isn't working, I've just spent 2 hours trying to do it over and over and it always stays at the top of the browser. I give up.

Add this to your code in the appropriate place.....

<BODY TOPMARGIN="0" BOTTOMMARGIN="0" LEFTMARGIN="0" RIGHTMARGIN="0" MARGINHEIGHT="0" MARGINWIDTH="0">
<TABLE WIDTH="100%" HEIGHT="100%">
<TR><TD WIDTH="100%" HEIGHT="100%" VALIGN="middle" ALIGN="center">

I do have that code in there. Weird that it still doesn't center vertically.

Sometimes I'm so lazy when it comes to programs these days, there was once a time where I raked them over the coals but these days. I do what I need to and run. Thanks Man!

It centers on my monitor? What browser are you guys using?

Yeah it centered on my PC too, under FF3.0.6.

So you guys see it centered vertically in your browsers? At what screen resolution?

I dont know if you did any changing but now its centered the way it should be on my monitor in IE and Flock. Resolution is 1920x1200. Maybe it just took awhile for the files to update to the site?

That's funny... I gave up after uploading the last edited version of the site, and seeing it still wasn't centering vertically. I guess it took a while for the files to actually update on the server or something.

Thanks for the feedback!! :)

Ok. Thank you fellas!!

I'm quite relieved that it's working now. It was nagging me in the back of my mind. Lol.

Now I can head down to Adorama and pick up a telephoto zoom with a clear head. :D

Very nice!

Would have to agree - give choice between slideshow and thumbnail overview.

Also, while these were all portraits, is expanding to other areas, such as landscape etc, group in folders. However, given the name of the website, it reflect the portfolio. In that case, if expanding to other areas, may want as to create a related website and give link.

I have narrowed down my focus to shooting only people, so my website will only feature portraits.

I may in a future design break it down into categories again such as fashion, glamour etc. I did try that when doing this website, but it clashed with the simple minimalist feel that I had in mind. If I go that route then definitely I will have thumbnails as that would get out of control otherwise. For now I'll keep it at 40 images or less for simplicity's sake.

The hardest part is choosing which images to put up. It's hard picking apart your own catalog to choose the best without emotional attachment to an image... lol. I still haven't finalized the current selection yet.

There are a few models that have worked with me from the start, and grew with me, when noone else would give me a chance. It is really hard cutting their images out... Thankfully they have also gotten some of my best photos! I'm even more thankful that those photos are actually landing these models gigs. That's what makes me smile at the end of the day, that as I'm growing, the friends who started out with me and believed in me are making progress following their dreams. :) It's hard to believe it's only been 15 months since I started.

Looks real good.

I'm envious...I have no page-building experience at all.

How did you learn?

How did you learn?

Trial and error, and online Dreamweaver tutorials. Pretty much the same way I learned to use photoshop. www.layersmagazine.com helped a lot. I do know some very, very basic html, which means nothing these days it seems since everything is CSS and flash and what-not... lol

HTML/CSS is easy, it's Flash and scripting languages that can be the bitch :P

Clean and simple, works really well once its loaded up. Im missing an index kinda page aswell like K1W1 tho. Love the white, brings out the images. No need for any fancy effects here.
