I have been searching for a DSLR camera with a voice memo option (where it takes a seperate mpeg of the picture with a voice recording attached to it). It apprears that this option is readily available on lower end camers but is not available on any SLR models. This option is invaluable in my line of work, does any know of any new models that has this option. As well a built in flash would be great. Thanks

I don't think any of them have that feature. Almost all of them have built in pop up flashes though.

the only dslr's i'm aware of that have that feature are the top end pro dslr's like the 1d series, D2x etc

I have actually looked into the D2x, the distributer in my area confirmed for me that this was not an option even though ohter literature suggests it does. do you know of anywhere I can get this feature added or where I can get a custom made camera (is that even possible)

According to Darrell Young:

When my D2x arrived, one of the first things I tried out was the new built-in voice memo recorder. I am extremely pleased with this little D2x feature. It works like a charm... Now I have all the EXIF exposure info I need and a nice voice recording for the important shots.

© PlanetNikonIt's enabled by using the "mic" button on the rear of the cam, for both adding voice memos (up to 60 secs) at review time, or listening to them on playback.

Hope this helps :)

Find a new distributor who knows the products they deal with. That one does not deserve your business.

What about just getting a separate voice recorder ?

I've seen them go from between 50 to 150$ packed with a shitload of features.. Im sure one of them is that you can record a large amount of short recs and name them the same as the image file, or just mention it, IMG 10445 Features xxxxyyyyzzzz, IMG 10446 Features aaaabbbbccc, etc.

I mean, these are extremely expensive cameras, unless you already in a highly visual digital media field, these are amazing overkill and aren't the easiest cameras to use, not to mention will require a large read: LARGE investement in glass. (Optics, lenses, whatever you may call it.)

The cheapest lens i know of that fits on a 1ds m3, would be the 50 1.8 at 130$. The next one hops to about 3 to 400$ i think... and another small jump towards the 800$, etc.

NB: im using $Cad prices. If i see you with a 1ds-mark3 and a 50 1.8, i am very probably going to slap you. or at least stare at you in a very obvious manner for aslong as my schedule permits hopefully making you as uncomfortable as anyone else in the surroundings. I love the 50 1.8, but not on a 1ds m3.

Utterly foolish. You use a lens because it is the right lens for the job. Not because it is fashionable on that type of camera. That's pure snobbishness.

Note:
The D700 only has image comment, which is text based, same as my D200 and the D300. The D3 / D3X have that and voice comment. Basically, if it doesn't have a built in portrait grip, it doesn't have voice comment.

Utterly foolish is spending 8ooo on a camera and then only 130$ on the lens, when you can get a 50 1.4 or 50 1.2 instead, giving you better brokeh and more light as well as better focus and FTM.

Now thats foolish. Or did everyone stop saying "Get better glass before you think about the camera."

Your choices are (assuming new): Canon EOS-1D Mark III, Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III, Nikon D3, Nikon D3X.

However none of them have a pop-up flash.

I loved the feature when I shot with a mark II for a paper back in Texas.
I would append names, locations, and etc to the file.
I also would use it when trying different lighting styles, so I could later see on the laptop what setup I used for the specific picture.
