Any news concerning a Maxxum 8/9D?
I didn't like some aspecs of M7D:

- lens goes to infinite everytime you power on;
- doesn't handle well in incandescent light;
- abominable CF read/write speed for such expensive cam;
- AF iluminator = flash picture.

Maybe a new firmware to fix it?

Regards!

Like the *ist D from Penatax, that came before the *ist DS, K-M might want to consider your idea. For $1500 the 7D is a disappointment at best.

Why "at best" ? Which aspects you didn't like?

For "lens goes to infinite everytime you power on", I think if they have a 8/9D, it will have the same feature. My old Maxxum 9 (film cam) do the same thing: lens goes to infinite everytime when it's power on and off. I think folks of Minolta love this.

Sorry, I was out of town for a few days so did not see your question.

I know Jeff liked this camera, but I'm sure that he would agree it's not really worth $1600. At $999 it might be a contender.

After spending about an hour with the 7D:

I have used a lot of cameras in the past 2 years, and cannot think of one that I could not adapt to in the first 15 minutes, but the 7D is a first. While Jeff seemed to like the ergonomics, I just could not get used to the controls.

Personnally I just don't like the camera, and I think it needs to be heavily "tweeked" to make it worth the asking price. Were I to spend $1600+ the Canon 20D would get my nod, AS or no AS.

Again this is just my personal opinion. If you are a knobs and dials kind of person, and don't shoot in continuous mode, then this is your camera. The AS is a nice feature, but beyond that it's not a very good effort.

I have to agree here. It's understandable that this is their first DSLR and it is a valiant effort to place in IS to lure customers, but remember that it's a first generation product. The Pentax was much the same with the *ist D. It was an OK camera, but it had some issues to iron out and its asking price was far too high. Pentax followed suit with a more polished $999 camera with a few things added and dropped. Hopefully, KM will do the same and then they'll have a killer contender in their hands.
