For the price is literally have to kill to get one :D. Im sure it's a really good camera in the way a Maybach is an excellent car. I dont expect to own either tho :).

Think I would lean towards high ISO more, so it would be the D3/D700/Canon 5D II for me. Besides costing as much as two D3s as that review put it, it would have an awfully steep learning curve, especially since I am still having some trouble with white balance.

i'm susprirsed how poorly the 5dMkII tested against the d3. to my eyes when i was using it, it didnt seem too bad. the d3x is pretty much a useless for anyone not in the fully pro game. far too expensive.

Not USELESS, I'd say the correct term here is pointless. It's either for pros or fools with too much money. :D

Heh, yeah fools is a more polite way of putting it than they did ('wealthy amateurs')

One thing I'll say about the D3x, it makes the D3 And D700 look so much more appealing! Not that they needed any help. ;)

Seems to me that the D3 and D700 are workhorses that you pick up and start snapping away.

Not sure where this D3x will fit in, it's almost like a new product line since it is looks like a bit of overkill in a lot of situations.

I'm sure none of us would mind if we got a free D3x, but I'm guessing I'd sell it.

Me too... I could get just about all the glass I dream about for my D300 for that money.

It's not pointless if you need the resolution. For an amateur, it's just too expensive to get that resolution when there are other viable candidates that cost much less for an entire system. As demonstrated in the review, you can get pretty darn close to the D3x output with the Sony, and you can get the Sony and a superwide and a wide, pretty much top drawer, for less than the D3x body. For landscape photography, I don't need high ISO or speed. Just resolution. Still, I've pretty much vowed to stay away from all things Sony. Been bitten one too many times.

Plus if someone is already an established Nikon shooter with lenses, they aren't likely to ditch it all to get the Sony system.
