Well I've decided to give the strobist side of things a go just for the fun of it.

I've ordered a cheap set of triggers, knowing that they aren't going to be all that great going by Adam's experience. The one's I've ordered at rebranded as Phottix Tetra PT-04 II. Supposed to be a new design and more reliable, these should be with me any day.

But now I've ordered them, I've only just SEEN THIS THREAD on the new Cactus V4's (http://www.flickr.com/groups/strobist/discuss/72157613271010155/)

Looks like they'll hit the market in March and look as though they'd have a much better range with the aerial mod in place out of the box.

it's about time they redesigned those triggers. if they're around $25-30 per receiver, they might be worth investing in. my only question would be how well two of them work at the same time in close range of each other and at different distances. i always had one v2s that would work great but another that wouldn't work for shit. and most of the time it was the one that the 580ex was connected to. very cool that they added the 3.5mm jack. i hope these work reliably, they can only be good for the competition's prices. hopefully pocket wizard will respond with an entry level model to compete with all these cheaper triggers that have been coming out.

p.s. still love my cybersyncs!!!!! still firing 100%.

New PW.... http://strobist.blogspot.com/2009/02/pocketwizard-flextt5-and-minitt1-full.html

They cost more but can do TTL stuff.

I was going to place an order for SC today but all this other talk is making me second guess myself...

I question the worth of ebay crap like that.

Somewhere I heard a pocketwizard was coming out with ETTL2 radio triggers.

hahhaaa awesome. well as much as i'd like ttl, i'm just not gonna be swingin that anytime soon. cool that you can do high speed sync though!!!!!

and nick...NEVER second guess the cybersyncs. these things are ridiculous good. and they've passed the drop test many times over. i seriously doubt these cactus's will be able to do that.

Yeah if I enjoy the whole Strobist side of things I'll definitely upgrade to Cybersyncs, I haven't read a bad thing about them (apart from how hard they are to get outside of the US)

Looking forward to playing with the triggers though, I've been hanging for the postman to get here every day and NOTHING! My cheapest purchase in photography and the Loongest wait by far... then they'll arrive, won't work, I'll take a hammer to them and probably order Cybersyncs. Gotta love eBay.

The PWs sound good. If I go for radio ETTL then I might do that. For the moment my ST-E2 is more than adequate.

i think the only thing wrong with cybersyncs is the lack of lanyard or a loop to attach your own.

edit...just found some cheapo ebay lanyards and ordered 6 for i think $12 shipped..i'm just gonna put them in the battery door like this guy for now.

yep they look perfect for it. So is it more reliable to use the 3.5mm jack rather than the hot shoe? Is that why some people have problems with the 430/580's?

Sitting here waiting for the postman AGAIN.
