Hi,
I purchased a Canon A-95 camera yesterday and would like to get a bigger memory card. I'm a little confused by all the different cards available in terms of size, speed etc (ultra, elite, regular..). Can anyone point me in the right direction so that I find the right card for my needs. I'm an ordinary user who is upgrading from a film camera and not a real serious photographer. Also if the speed of the card helps while transferring images to the computer or shooting video I would like to investigate the option. Any opinions about the different brands, sizes, speeds would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Buy a card with normal speed and save those extra bucks you´d have to pay for high speed cards. Your A95 isn´t able to really profit from the high speed cards, rather buy MORE memory for the same money. And don´t buy that ****** ExtreMemory Cards, they suck, they´re slow and consume a lot of electricity. I´ve bought a 256 MB Kingston Compact Flash Card (costing 21 Euros in Germany), a great value ;) ) !

The A95 works on USB 1.1, so a normal Compact Flash card will do just fine.
However, transfering the files to your PC will take some time.
That is why I bought a Lexar 80X 1GB card and a USB 2.0 reader.
I take the CF card out of the camera and place it in the reader, then transfer the files.
It is much faster than doing it straight from the camera.
The Lexar 80X 1GB card was $80 from www.newegg.com
I can store about 400 pics on it at 5MP SuperFine mode.

It isnt that the A95 is USB 1.1 thats the problem, it is that it isnt a write accelerated camera (non of the powershot cameras are AFAIK) so when it is writing from the buffer to the card an 80x one will be no faster than a cheapo slow one.

It does however show on a card reader like FAUguy said

Alnath, goletitout, FAUguy,
Thanks for taking the time to educate me about the A95 accessories, I really appreciate your input. I will buy a regular card and a card reader as all of you suggested. Have a good day!
