Hello. I recently purchased a Canon A400 from Target. I tend to use it mainly in the manual mode, as I am a beginner and I heard that manual mode gives you the most control over the camera which is useful if you want to learn photography. The A400 does not have manual focus however.

The problem that I am having is that a lot of my photographs appear to be coming out rather fuzzy indoors. This particularly happens with the flash on, and even more if the flash is off but there is natural light coming through a window (if that makes any sense). I make sure I hold the camera extra steady. I tried to play around with the settings to see if that changed anything, but it actually made it worse. Is this just a problem with low-end cheap cameras like this, or am I doing something wrong?

I have to say also I am very disappointed with this camera, and I would advise anyone against getting it. The autofocus really seems to struggle indoors, and because it doesnt have manual focus your done for. Outside it is ok, but still doesnt seem that sharp. Im returning it.

the photographic sensor in the A400 is particularly small, meaning it's going to be a struggle to get 'unfuzzy' pictures in some conditions. I guess what you mean by fuzzy pictures indoors is that the light is low, meaning the exposure time is longer, putting more stress on the sensor, which being small, gives alot of noise (fuzziness). But almost any sub-professional camera is going to have this problem to some degree. The truth is that digital cameras just aren't as good as film cameras yet.

If you're on a budget, you may want to look at a Powershot A510 (and A520 when it comes out soon). It has got a somewhat better sensor on it than the A400.

Do shop around when you go to buy your next camera, as the big deparment chains often put ma$$ive markups on cameras.
