Many of you have asked for it, so I figured I'd share some real world high ISO samples. I really didn't need that high of ISO during normal playing, but there were times where it was so dark that I needed it, and I kept it up just to be on the safe side. Thanks also to Nickcanada for the advice.

I never thought that concert photography would be this difficult until I tried it. The rapid changing colors of the spotlights were a pain when spot metering and AE Lock. The blues and the reds overpowered the natural skin tones so it seemed really soft. When I converted them to black and white the sharpness was there.

These were all shot from ISO 2500 all the way up to 6400.

Lenses used: 24-70, 85 1.8, and the 50. The camera has been upgraded to the latest firmware, so all my banding issues and weird spots are now gone.

The 50 had the most trouble locking consistent focus in the dark, so I used the 24-70 and the 85 the most.

What kind of NR did you use in PP?

Cool shots by the way:)

Thanks... I shot raw but left the default settings in DPP. I am pretty sure I'm not using noise reduction in DPP, unless it is doing them automatically.

WOW, pretty clean then at those ISO settings. There's no "drooling" smilie face, but if there was I would have added 10 of them in this post:p

What's with the crowd in #3 of your second post? It's a great B&W of the singer but the crowd looks so uninterested.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Seems like a tough crowd eh.

They look awesome! I'm so jealous of that usable high ISO! looks sooo good!

P.S. is there anyway you could hook me up with a RAW file? I'd love to have a closer look at what the mkII can do.

Sure thing. Just make sure you're updated to 3.5.1 or whatever the latest one is.

I dont recall what I focused on to be honest, only because I found myself having a hard time focusing and recomposing when they're moving so fast and hte lighting is changing. Do you use AI Servo when shooting concerts?

I'm still "Learning" the camera. I have hte autofocus set to the AF-on button and the shutter button is now configured for AE lock only. If it seems like it's OOF it's probably user error and not so much the camera :p

P.S. Your inbox is full and email address doesnt seem to be working. :D
