Hi all, I apologize if this is the wrong forum but I perused them quickly and thought this would be the best fit. I have two DSLRs with APS-C sensors, and I plan to upgrade to another eventually (Canon 50D). I really want a wide angle angle lens for my uses in portraiture and wedding formals, but I realize that the APS-C sensor increases the focal length of your lens by 1.6x (correct?). So I was wondering if anyone had any good examples, pieces of advice, or recommendations pertaining to obtaining a wide angle lens when you shoot with a camera equipped with an APS-C sensor. With the increase in focal length, I'm thinking that in my quest for super wide shots, I should (when I save up enough), buy the widest angle I can afford in order to combat the increase. I shoot with a little Canon medium zoom lens that is 18mm at its widest, but I'm craving an 11 or 10mm. I would like to not get a fisheye though at this point in time. Thanks in advance!

It's not really a big deal because they make even wider lenses for cropped cameras. I'd get the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8

I still like Canon's ef-s 10-22.

I still like Canon's ef-s 10-22.

+1 for that lens, it's incredible.

Thanks for the responses, the input is much appreciated. I think I'll try and find some examples of pictures taken with varying sensor sizes and the same focal lengths on wide angle lenses to add to this thread.

There three most popular options are:

Tokina 11-16 f2.8 - really the only option with f2.8 - very sharp
Canon 10-22 - best range and IQ - (IMHO)
Sigma 10-20 - very good. Not quite as good as the canon, but quite a bit cheaper.

Tamron makes an 11-18, but it is more expensive than the Sigma and doesn't go as wide. Not a good option unless you find it way cheap.

TAMRON has a new 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di-II lens which offers the widest range of any of the UWA lenses. Evaluation of the lens varies, so you might want to get to a store that carries a couple of these type of lenses and shoot your own test. The results are far too different with each user to be dependable.

Good luck and shoot 'em up! ;)
