Do all of normally keep VR on your lens? I know we have to turn it off when it is on tripod.

Recently I acquired the 70 300 VR. Everything is fine but I started to noticed some pictures were not as sharp when the shutter speed is fairly fast. (ie. greater than 200). VR has been working great when it is less than 100.

anyhow, I am just wondering if it is just me. Can VR actually works against you?

thank you for reading.

What are you photographing at 1/200?

VR won't in itself stop action so if what you are shooting at is moving quickly then 1/200 sec is probably too slow.

you are probably right. In one instance, it was go carts. Well slow ones. I haven't done enough testing. I was also surprise that VR was still kicking me around that speed. Therefore, I thought it might be cause.

I will do more test.

theoretically, using the old rule of thumb, 300mm should be handheld at around 1/450s on aps-c. i know most people go alot less than obviously but ideally for consistent shots you need it a bit highe rso its no surprise VR kicked in at 1/200s.

I leave VR turned off unless I can't pull off the shot without it. It's seems like my camera isn't as quick to take shots when its on.

Look at the blur in the hands and feet at 1/500 sec! VR will not freeze action.

Here is another at 1/60 sec. VR does good to steady the background but nothing for the runner (that was deliberate on my part BTW).

I actually don't have any VR lenses at the moment... But when I did I turned it off if I didn't need it, as to me it seemed to reduce my chance of critically sharp shots (if the shutter speed was beyond needing it).. Maybe it was just my particular lens? don't know I never had that problem with in-body IS.. My fiancee also complained of the same problem with her 2 VR kit lenses..

At lower speeds where there is no way I could handhold the shot then yes it helped achieve a better shot than I would have without it..

Haven't noticed a reduction in sharpness at high speeds, 1/500 - 1/1000.

VR on all the time except on my tripod when I remember.

Haven't seen a problem caused by it. It does take a 1/2 second to kick in though, you do half press and then fire rather than just stabbing the button?

Thanks to all.

K1W1. thanks for the examples. I underestimated the speed for sure.

Rooz. your example of VR activation makes sense to me now. thank you
