At how much shit to git these little cars have. So I brought it home. Sure beats the old van.

It's a 1999 Ford Contour SE Sport 24v DOHC V6. 41,494 original one-owner miles.

cdifoto

Not my FIRST car but my most recent one. I bought it last night. I saw it online yesterday around 5PM and by 9:30PM it was parked in my driveway.

Yeah. Buying a car has been on my mind for since mid-December though and I was looking at older BMWs of all things...like 1995s and such. But the mileage was almost always high or the price WAY too high and/or the car too far away.

So basically practicality won out this time around. Plus the warranty I was able to call their bluff to get.

It's an automatic. I'm getting too old in my old age to want to shift manually. I like to sip my coffee and just cruise. :o

Redneck-speak. :D

Honestly this car was spontaneous because I was adamant about NOT getting a Ford. But then I saw the price, mileage, and how clean it looked and decided to go see it (being just 15 miles away). I hopped in it and was shocked at how snappy it was.

faisal
01-16-2009, 10:09 AM
what was the price like??? (If you don't mind telling us that)

cdifoto
01-16-2009, 10:12 AM
It was fair. Neither a bargain nor over-priced. I CAN tell you it was $2200 less than the BMW I was most set on would have cost me. The BMW was a 525i and had almost double the mileage, 4 years older, no warranty, and was three hours' drive away.

There was an additional benefit to buying this one. I would have had substantial out of pocket expenses just to find out of the BMW was worth buying at all. I didn't have ANY out of pocket expenses to get this one home. IE no service inspection costs, no state safety inspection, no down payment, etc. They added the taxes, title, and registration fees (that I would have had to pay for out of pocket on the BMW as well) to the total cost of the car and I financed the whole shebang.

lol, over here they are classed as relatively big cars and go by the name "Mondeo".

cdifoto
01-16-2009, 10:20 AM
Yeah I read that. LOL. It's about the same size as the BMW 525i. The Taurus' are even bigger yet...and over here the Taurus is considered a mid-size car.

faisal

The last generation Mondeo replaced these over here...

Cars don't last long here....you'd hardly find a mint condition late 90's car unless it's a luxury car...that's where the Beemers and Mercedes are better bets than the Fords and Toyota as they tend to hold up better....

Dreaming big, I want a Cadillac CTS.

In reality, I need to get my wife a small SUV (i.e. Rav 4, CR-V, etc). I need to get rid of her two old cars (91' Civic & 89' 325i). My 01' Mitsubishi Eclipse is getting smaller and smaller everyday too :(

Yeah, they will fly. Congrats on the purchase. Good luck with the Ford. I swore after my '79 Mustang I'd never buy another Ford.

My son bought one a couple of months back and loves it. Surprising room. I'm 6'2, 210lbs, and can ride comfortable.

Yeah nobody liked the 500 and everyone got mad when they discontinued the Taurus, so they made some changes to the 500 and stuck Taurus logos on it.

I wish I knew you were lookin' for a car. I could have given you a good deal on what I just sold. Sorta' like a Beemer. '79 MG Midget with about 51K original miles. Fun to drive but, wasn't great for packing photo gear in though.....

Yeah, it was pos from the start. Replaced the turbo twice and no telling how much $ just to keep it running. It would fly when it was running though. There was a few years where they should take the "Mustang" emblem and replace it with a "Jackass" :D

Right on Don! looks like a nice car!

I'd love to get a Subaru for driving in the snow up here.... some day.

Oh and Faisal. You don't see many 1990 vintage cars up here. They usually start rusting out within 10 years because of the salt poured on the roads in the winter rusts the metal. They use salt to melt ice built up on the roads in the winter.

Thanks Nick. I'm not excited. I mean it's still a Ford. But...like I said before it's a leap up from the ol' van. I mean hell it has heat. It was cheap enough that it's kind of a temporary thing...ie when we get out of this recession and/or business picks up a little better I'll get a nicer, more german vehicle.

Well they were planning to ban cars older than 15years over here cause most of them are a wreck when they reach that age...though I'm glad thy didn't pass the law cause that would have banned lot of the mint condition classics like a particular BMW 850i.... (cars labeled as vantage cars were to be spared)

The cars get killed due to the heat and humidity here...lot of incidents where the cars catch fire....
Plus the after sales service isn't the best here...

and if you manage to keep it save from nature...the maniacal drivers get to you....on the way back from an outing with family today saw a Cherokee SRT-8 rammed into the side railing at one place while saw Nissan Patrol on its roof at another place....and that's on a good day!!!

No different here unfortunately. Yesterday was really bad, something like 170 accidents in the morning due to ice on the road!

I don't know about other states, but in Pennsylvania you can do up to 7 digits of any letter and/or number combination on a car/truck/motorhome and 5 digits on a motorcycle.
