Is there a camera that's not on our Upcoming Reviews list (http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/recentupcoming.php)? Put in your request for a review here, and I'll do what I can to get ahold of one!

Hey Jeff!
I loved your review, which got me hooked to this site, of the Canon SX10. On the SX10 review, it was mentioned that a comparatization was going to be done between the SX10 and the SX1. Do you know when this will take place?

I think we need to get the Panasonic FZ-28 reviewed. It seems to be the one that seems to give the Canon SX10 a run for its money. I've looked at both in stores and I'd have to say that Panasonic beats it on first impressions but photo quality is where it counts so seeing your review of this and comparison shots against the SX10 will be nice. I'm especially interested in low-light and high-iso performance since Canon non-SLRs as you've stated many times seem to only be able to process good images at iso 200 or below.

I've been thinking about the FZ28, but I have a hunch that it's about to be replaced.
Really, wow, guess I didn't expect a replacement until July or so given that it took about a year to replace the FZ18 with the FZ28 -- care to share why you think it will be replaced so soon? Still, I ended up getting the FZ-28 after seeing that it had some clear advantages over the Canon for conversion lenses (might or might not go that route but I have options then) and also HD recording since the SX1 doesn't appear to be coming to the states. Also, the lens just seems to be brighter on the telephoto end so I found that nice as well.
Either way, hope you still choose to do a review...I'd be very interested in seeing that still and seeing what issues you ran up against. I know you guys favor the AA batteries too but I find that having the battery packs seem better to me for weight and I've never had a problem with just buying an extra one for longer trips.
Well, hope to see that review...the Casio FH20 review coming up will be nice but it seems to be in a different price range since I was able to pick up the FX-28 for probably half what that one costs and $100 less than the Canon. Either way, I've been a Canon fan for years but Panasonic is quickly moving up on them in my book at least (in the amateur consumer market anyways).
Thanks for all your great reviews and keep it up.

Hi, Jeff,
Please consider reviewing the Fujifilm S2000HD. That is one the super-zoom bridge cameras from Fujifilm. The outstanding feature marketed for this specific model is a 720p video mode.

Here comes my wish list of the new cameras announced by now in 2009. While most of the newcomers are basically indistinguishable from the earlier models of last year(s), then these ones have one or more unique features which make the cameras to stand out of the rest of the crowd. I've also listed the features which caused the cameras to be included in the wish list.
First the two new super zooms with unbelievable zoom ranges. It would be interesting to see the resulting image quality of pictures produced by the lens with this ambitious zoom ranges.
Kodak EasyShare Z980
* 24X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 26 - 624 mm
* Includes a removable vertical grip for portrait shooting
* HD movie mode
Olympus SP-590 Ultra Zoom
* F2.8-5.0, 26X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 26 - 676 mm
Next there are the two compact, "pocketable" cameras with valuable 10x zoom starting at usable wide angles.
Olympus Stylus 9000
* F3.2-5.9, 10X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 28 - 280 mm
Samsung HZ10W
* F3.3-5.8, 10X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 24 - 240 mm
Then there's the luxury item (what a price for an ultra compact!) from Sony. After playing around with the camera for a while - does it still feel like overpriced? Any use for the web browser?
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-G3
* Ultra-compact body is 3/4-inch thick
* Huge and very sharp 3.5" touchscreen LCD with 921,600 pixels
* Built-in Wi-Fi and web browser
* Built-in 4GB memory
* Now available for $500
And last but not least - there is one model which seems to be the perfect compact camera for many. Reasonable resolution (good high ISO promise?), uses inexpensive AA batteries, good battery life, good sized and sold at a very-very reasonable price.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS85
* 8.1 Megapixel CCD
* Uses two AA batteries; 550 shots per charge using NiMH cells
* Ships in April for $120
Cheers,
Margus

Just curious, whatever happened the promised A900 full review? :rolleyes:
Jeff,
You should correct the link on the homepage, since it's pointing to the Samsung TL34 HD... And where's the A900 (full) review? Has it been drop? I supose I could agree that DCRP's target reader isn't a EOS 1D ou Nikon D3 buyer, but it's a 5D or A900 buyer (at least the higher end)...
Keep up the good work.

I see, but isn't it a pretty major camera for the Sony system, the market, and what it represents as the highest resolution SLR? It's their flagship semi-pro full frame dSLR. I mean I understand you are busy and have other cameras to review, but what if Canon had sent you that T1i? Would you be too busy then? It doesn't seem like Sony gets a fair shake when it comes to reviews.
I would, in the same way you want people to contact Canon, urge you to reconsider as I and many others enjoy reading your reviews and it would also garner favorable attention from Sony as they expand their lineup and give the free PR.

I love your site, Jeff. I like the way you always use the same sample photos, making it easier to compare diiferent cameras. Also, I grew up on the peninsula, so the Stanford shots remind me of home. I know it's impossible to review all the cameras introduced every year, but I personally would like to see more on cameras with features that serious photographers appreciate. I won't even consider a camera without aperture priority and a wide angle lens, no matter how good. Leave the more auto everything cameras to the user review sites like Amazon. So, I'd like to see the Nikon S710, Panasonic FX580, Fuji F60FD, and Ricoh GX200.

..... I personally would like to see more on cameras with features that serious photographers appreciate. I won't even consider a camera without aperture priority and a wide angle lens, no matter how good.
I'm sorry, but with all due respect, I have to strongly disagree with this proposal.
Why should this site (or any photography review site for that matter) be the purview of only "serious" photographers? What exactly do you mean by a "serious" photographer anyway?
As the current owner of four (2 fully auto) point 'n' shoot digital cameras who's also been shooting for more than 50 years with 35mm film cameras, am I considered not to be a "serious" photographer?
It's perfectly acceptable for you not to consider cameras without a WA lens and manual controls (it's a free world!) and that's your decision, but please don't suggest that DCResource should ignore the multitude of top-notch cameras out there that don't have those features... such as the Panasonic TZ7 (http://www.panasonic.com.au/products/details.cfm?productID=7160) which doesn't have any manual modes such as aperture priority.
It's unrealistic to suggest that Jeff shouldn't review the TZ7, as it's a great 12x pocketable, fully auto point 'n shooter, with a lovely 460,000 dot 3" LCD.
And as I've said before, I really dislike this implied camera "snobbery" — or the imaginary delineation between "serious" photographers and the rest of us who don't know, apparently, what we're talking about.
Cheers :)

I have to agree with you. One thing I like so much about Jeff's reviews is that, unlike DPReview's reviews, there're more focus on what casual users need (at least, that's how it feels like to me), a category that most people fall into.

While I'm always keeping my eyes open for a decent advanced camera (although I'm not ready to buy one now, as I already have an SX10), I also look a little at more entry level compacts, just to see how things are going there. I'd like to see a review site that puts the same effort into reviewing all cameras (fully-auto ultracompacts, even if it's not from a well-known manufacturer, unless it's a particularly bad camera) that imaging-resource and dpreview combined put into reviewing each high-end full-frame dSLR. Now it seems that dpreview AND imaging-resource will only give the full treatment to a review if the camera has a large sensor AND an interchangeable lens mount. (No, I wouldn't expect Jeff to take that task on, unless he gets a LOT of help!) Also it'd be nice to see every camera that's announced reviewed (and if a camera doesn't get reviewed, it means there are some serious flaws with that model (but if lots of people are buying it maybe it should be reviewed to bring the flaws to our attention)), but likewise I won't expect Jeff to do that by himself.

I agree with the contention that certain review sites are becoming more "tailored" to suit their specific readership sector, whether that's entry-level, amateur, advanced amateur, or semi-professional.
DCRP's reviews — of even the dSLRs — are an excellent balance of "need-to-know" technicalities, coupled with a broad summation of a camera's "usability" from the viewpoint of most amateur users. As an advanced amateur, I find DCRP's overall approach, the range of cameras reviewed, and the balance of high-tech and hands-on considerations pretty well perfect. I also relate well to Jeff's "informal" style of journalism; he doesn't patronise novices, nor starve the more technically-inclined, and I quite often feel as though he's talking directly to me — almost face-to-face.
Sites such as DPReview on the other hand have chosen (which is, of course, their prerogative) to conduct their reviews at a much deeper technical level, with lots of graphs and tables and timings etc aimed at the semi-professionals. They also favour dSLRs, and now only review three or four point 'n' shooters or bridges over a 12-month period — and only the Canon SX1 so far this year.
As I have very little interest these days in dSLRs, I seldom read their reviews any more, simply because I'm tired of wading through 30-pages of luminance and noise graphs, and dozens of comparison samples dissected to the nth degree.
On those criteria then, I'm more than happy with Jeff's current (and hopefully ongoing!) style and choice of review cameras.
Cheers :)

I agree. Jeff's reviews are easy to follow, very comprehensive and, most importantly, consistent.
Back to the topic:
I would love to see a review of the Panasonic fx580/550. Why? Because it has a new engine, good manual controls (on paper) and (again, on paper) would seem to be the only possible rival to the Fuji f200EXR, with a faster lens and other options, but only if it can do well in low light. The beautiful LX3 can't do it. I see no other ultra compacts that offer WA relatively fast lenses, manual controls and decent telephotos that have any hope in low light. Touch screen features might be interesting, or might be annoying. But this camera looks more interesting than most others in its class.
No one does these reviews like Jeff, but I know he's only human (we'll ignore the rumours...). Thanks Jeff!

Just one thing I'd like to ask in relation to the upcoming, much-anticipated f200EXR review (since I mentioned consistency):
Is it possible to include the church interior shot at similar ISOs to the other reviews? ISO800 is fine, but I notice most of the other cameras' samples are ISO400, 500 or maybe 640. It is not so helpful to compare 800 to 400, even though I know you're testing the SN setting. Why not compare 400 and 800 between cameras, as these will be the most commonly used high ISOs in low light.
BTW, in all my net research, I have concluded that, in low light, for anything up to ISO400, HR is better than SN. For ISO800 up, SN is better than HR, but DR is way better for ISO800 than SN, and returns more detail. It is even better than DR at ISO400, for some reason. I haven't seen this referred to in any review, probably because DR is not meant to be for high sensitivities. Since no other camera has these features, it needs extra comparison data to make it useful.
Just a request if you have time, but it is very interesting.
Cheers,
Matt

Hi Jeff,
do you still have the F200EXR? If so, could you please complete the review? The most important part is still missing... I told the following in the F200EXR thread:
"if you ever do a F200EXR review, please have a look at how it behaves in 'normal' modes (Auto, P, M) with picture size set to 6MP. It has already been verified that then setting DR to more than 100% will automatically switch the camera to EXR DR mode. Some people have also suggested that choosing DR=100% and a high ISO setting, e.g. 3200, will automatically switch the camera to EXR SN mode. Since the special EXR SN mode which can be chosen manually is limited to ISO1600, this would be an important issue. Please include 6MP ISO3200 pictures in your review, if you are doing one - no-one else has done that so far."
So, please go ahead and have another go with the camera set to 6MP with DR100% and show us how the ISO3200 studio picture looks like then! Should be a really big difference to the 12MP ISO3200 picture. It is not nice that Fuji has hidden so well how the camera uses SN and DR modes even outside the EXR setting, but it should still be noted in the review.
Best Regards,
malamut

I do have a comparison of ISO 1600 in the review, 6MP vs 12MP downsized.Yes, that's what they all have. The important thing which is missing is the ISO3200 picture taken with 6MP and DR100% (in mode P or M). According to several people who tried it, and contrary to what you wrote in the review, the camera will take such a picture with SN and not HR mode! So it will really make a difference when compared to a downsized 12MP picture.

Jeff I've got a Canon SD950 with the 1/1.8 sensor that never got reviewed. Now the Canon SD990 is out with the 1/1.8 sensor and thus far no review. Are there plans to review the SD990? Canon so rarely provides the larger sensor and a review of how it performs might be helpful.

Jeff,
Thanks so much for the f200EXR review, especially all the ISO comparison shots. I think the one stop advantage is probably only in good light (but I'd like to see low light/high ISO with DR mode...), but if Fuji can update the camera to go with the sensor - like a faster lens, for starters! - then they've got a killer here.
Btw, all modes except auto are supposed to be able to go to 8 secs, so I wonder if it's possible to force long shutter speeds in EXR too, for night shots?
Thanks again, much appreciated.
P.S. More handheld evening/indoor high ISO shots would be great, too :)

Jeff,
Thanks so much for the f200EXR review, especially all the ISO comparison shots.
Sorry, the camera is gone, so no more tests.

Hi Jeff,
I would like to see more reviews of the "bridge" cameras, as these are some of the only compacts that offer optical (although electronic) viewfinders, manual controls, and lenses wider than 28mm. I've noticed that you have only reviewed the Canon SX10 and Fuji S100, but not any of the other Fuji models, or any of the Olympus, Nikon, Panasonic, or Sony models. I just bought the Nikon P80, after being dissatisfied with the low light performance of my recently aquired Panasonic FX500, and despite the generally marginal reviews the Nikon has received, I find it to be quite awesome! It's quick, and has accurate focus and exposure, good color, a sharp lens, and better dynamic range and low light performance than most compact cameras I've tried recently, which include Canon, Sony, and Fuji models as well as the Panasonic. The best camera I've used besides my Fuji S6000, which is just too big to lug around all the time. Thanks for listening to my opinions.

Hi,
I've been following your reviews close to two years now, and that is how long I've been looking around and saving for my first DSLR. Thanks to you I have picked up a lot of stuff along the way, and it has definitely helped. :)
I read your review of the Nikon D90 and I think the camera is awesome. On similar lines, Canon too has come out with EOS Rebel T1i (EOS 500D).
Please if you could review the camera (I didn't find it in your upcoming reviews list) it'd help a lot of people like me :)
Cheers!

Hey Jeff!!
Thank you for the interesting E-P1 preview, I’m looking forward to the full review with sample photos.
I read that Panasonic uses an electronic distortion correction for their micro four thirds lenses and saw some sample photos where pictures from RAW data where compared to jpeg pictures directly from the camera with quite obvious difference. Now the product planning manager of Olympus mentioned in an interview that they are doing this as well ("We are doing distortion corrections. Panasonic is doing this and likewise we're doing the same to allow us to make the lens smaller." on dpreviw).
For me and maybe others too, it would be very interesting if your review could consider this fact, and for me it's not clear if you use e.g. the E-P1 with a Panasonic lens, if there will be electronic correction as well, which could have quite consequences on the available "good" lenses for the cameras...
Best Regards

Hey Jeff, I've been coming back to your site for about 8 + years now. Thanks for an awesome job. I guess it's about time I bought you a beer :-)
In the meantime, a bit of an unusual suggestion - Liquid Image HD320. A scuba mask that takes 5Mpx pics, 720HD vids and goes down to 115 ft. It sounds intriguing to me and I am sure to many other divers.
The site with the most pictures I've found was this: http://www.divecamcentral.com/dc-liqimg-hd320.html.
Just a thought.

Hello Mr. Keller, I have confirmed via Sony reps that this camera will be released on Sept 16th, 2009...not in October as per the press releases. I am planning on pre-ordering it, but I would really feel more comfortable if I was able to read one of your great reviews before buying it...thanks if it's at all possible.

Hello Jeff,
I second the WX1 request. A comparison with the low light capabilities of the F30/F31fd would be very nice; I am one of the F30/F31fd owners who keep wondering if there ever will be a camera worth an upgrade.
Thanks

Is there a camera that's not on our Upcoming Reviews list (http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/recentupcoming.php)? Put in your request for a review here, and I'll do what I can to get ahold of one!
Dear Jeff,
After successfully using a Sony DSC P100 for many years I am trying to find a pocketable camera with a few more megapixels, more telephoto, and image stabilization and that takes excellent pictures. I don't mind paying for the bells and whistles as long as the image quality is there. So far I have been disappointed in all of the cameras that you and others have reviewed. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 seems to have what I want but at 1.3 inch thick it is too big for my pocket.
Lately a number of cameras have been announced that look promising.
I hope that you can find time to review them, if nothing more than to comment on their image quality.
Fuji FinePix F70EXR, Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR1, Panasonic Lumix DMCFX60,
Casio Exilim EX-H10, Casio Exilim EX-Z400, and Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX1.
Thank you for your great reviews.

hello Jeff, from France
I think you might review compacts and bridges first, because it will rain DSRLs this fall :D
May I suggest these cameras:
_Fuji FinePix F70EXR, S200 EXR
_Panasonic FZ 35
_Sony WX1
_Ricoh GRD III
I should also add Nikon D3000 but i've just pointed out it is scheluded.
Thanks for your comprehensive reviews

I know Ricoh isn't a popular brand, but I would love to see a review of this camera. With all of the "me too" cameras on the market, Ricoh actually tries to do things differently and more oriented towards serious photographers -- a 28mm wide with a f/1.9! I'm drooling. If only Ricoh could ever get image quality right . . .

There are a some interesting cameras. Some of them are supposed to improve noise in high ISO. Some of the cameras I like to see the reviews are:
1. The Ricoh GR Digital II and CX-1.
2. The Sony WX1 and TX-1
3. The Fujifilm F70EXR and the S200EXR
4. The Nikon Coolpix S1000pj and S70.
ahh and the new Samsungs ST550 and ST1000 (I never liked Samsung CCD small sensors (too noisy), but their new compact cameras, like new Coolpixes are oriented to gadgets lover guys...

I would also like to read a review of the Pentax K-7. And, as I understand, Samsung is using Pentax cameras. Am I right? :)
I suggest Jeff drop the Canon SD970IS review. Not just because Canon continues to snub Jeff. But also because we know it will be a good but bland camera just like all the other SDxxx cameras. There is just nothing new/special about it to warrant a review (I think it is their first year's mode that offers 720p video, but that's about it).

Also it sucks that Jeff has been getting passed by when given advanced info on new cameras. :( I would love it if he could get advanced enough info so he could have a reviews out as quickly as Imaging Resource did with the Sony A850 (I checked their website and they had a full review up the same day the A850 was officially announced.)
Hopefully Canon hasn't slighted Jeff for the round of SLRs that canonrumors says is supposed to be announced soon, and he can, in effect, beat Imaging-Resource's A850 review schedule. :)
(Even if you can't give any details, like what type of camera, model numbers, etc, would it be possible to at least tell us whether you have gotten any info from anyone, or would even that break an NDA?)

I'd be happy if you could finish the final review of the micro4/3 camera Lumix GF1 as soon as possible :) That was the first and main wish to come true.
The wish list for reviews turned out quite long this time, hope you can find time to review at least some of them.
> Sony Alpha DSLR-A500 or DSLR-A550
why? These cameras use a newly designed CMOS sensor and a new noise processing algorithm, and Sony says it will excel in low light.
> Canon PowerShot G11
why? Canon took a brave step to lower the megapixel count.
> Exilim EX-Z450
why? A budget camera with nice specs
* F2.6 - F5.8, 4X optical zoom lens, equivalent to 28 - 112 mm
* Sensor-shift image stabilization
* Even more scene modes, including a "handheld night scene" option
* Uses NP-40 battery; takes a whopping 550 shots per charge
* Priced at $199
> Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX1 or TX1
why? new high sensitivity CMOS sensor
> Coolpix S1000pj
why? it has a crazy on-board projector, does it take pictures too?
Cheers,
Margus

+1 re your take of the Canon SDxxx line.
Unless and until Canon introduces useful and usable features like shutter priority (typically no S or A mode in SDxxx, but they include spot metering?!) or something other than warmed over or new features (that virtually no one wants like color swap or whatever) I suggest the SDxxx reviews be skipped virtually entirely.
At the most frequent, maybe every other one. Canon churns these out like kittens. So this one has a black stripe or a white paw, or six toes...who cares? In the end, they are a jumbled nebulous mass. Include PASM, higher flash sync and work on the ISO 400 performance. That should be doable, then they'll have something. Other than that, a site like this should virtually ignore the SDxxx "noise" from Canon.

I like this shootout comparison list. Perhaps it could become a new review feature as opposed to the end of the review which states something like (forgive me, I'm paraphrasing) if you're interested in this camera, you might also be interested in x, y, z.
In certain cases (not all by any stretch) I think it would be really nice to see head-to-head comparisons. I think the WX1 from list 1 could be in list 2.

Ok, I known it's not a mainstream camera and costs as much as an "prosumer" DSLR, but it's a Sigma DP1/2 and m4/3 alternative and probably a high quality, high end alternative to a backup DSLR/compact camera .
So, will you review it?

Hi Jeff,
Having made review requests of other Pentax models and at the expense of sounding like an incurable fanatic, I'd like to request a K-x review. Unfortunately I'm a big fan of the underdog. It's a curse I think.
I'm excited about this one though. Reports show the K-x as having excellent noise control. Better than the K-7. So perhaps the disappointments will end here.
Have a good day!

Jeff, I'm a big fan of this site, and like your P&S reviews better than anybody else's. Thanks for all you do.
A bunch of cameras recently appeared with GPS. I am curious to know whether they write latitude & longitude in the EXIF, which would be my preference, or whether they do something less convenient with the data. The Casio model is interesting because it has accelerometers to extrapolate position when it can't get a GPS fix, as is often the case in outdoor canyons and inside buildings.
Your P6000 review did not say where the GPS data was written, but it looked like Nikon requires their software to do geotagging with it.

There's no doubt in my mind that cell phone cameras at one end and mirrorless large-sensor interchangeable lens systems the other will crowd point & shoot cameras out of the market within a decade. Maybe as soon as five years.
And the iPhone 4 camera is a big step forward here. It's gotten up to a quite-respectable 5 megapixels, with sensor size in the ballpark of some current point & shoots. It's not all there yet, but I'd be very curious to see how close we're getting.
Many tech-gadget sites are posting reviews of the iPhone as a camera and/or as a video recorder. But I'd really like to see it done in full camera-review style by someone with experience and good reputation as a camera reviewer. What do you think?

I'm really curious how the FZ100 compares to the previous model (FZ35) especially with the new MOS sensor. It sounds like an awesome upgrade but I'm curious to see if Panasonic didn't change too much by doing this, making it worse.

I guess the planned review of FX700 is better to be skipped. The photo gallery was absolutely enough already and I do not think that this camera would be of interest to anybody. Actually I asked myself several times while looking at the pictures - what the hec are the guys at Panasonic doing? Isn't there really anyone in their staff who could have stopped launching this model?

I want to repeat my suggestion above. This is the future, and it'd be interesting to get a "baseline" review to compare future models against.
It'd also be interesting to compare the iPhone's apparently-high-quality 5 megapixels against some of the new higher-resolution Android phones (now up to 14 megapixels (http://www.linuxfordevices.com/c/a/News/Sharp-ISO3-on-KDDI-and-Altek-Leo/), apparently!) -- are the extra pixels worth anything?

Great comparative pictures for the three similar travel cameras (Sony HX9V, Canon SX230IS and Panasonic) but I hope you will add the Fujifilm Finepix F550EXR too. It sounds similar though possibly better than the other three. The video has been knocked for losing focus when zooming but it sounds good otherwise.
