I've read a couple of reviews on this camera that indicated pictures appear grainy when transferred to a computer. Any truth to that?

All cameras will take grainy shots if the ISO is pushed high enough. If you are taking shots in low light you'll see this. Check out the review on this site for examples.

One other thing that will make a picture look grainy on a pc screen is pixel peeping. If you view a picture in the fit to screen mode (see the entire photo without scrolling) it will look fine. If you view the picture full size (meaning you cannot see the entire photo at one time) you will always have a more grainy picture. A picture taken in low light when viewed full size will look terrible every time (lots of noise).
