This is kind of vague. What exactly are you going for?

toriaj started a similar thread recently...

Yes, use them.

Like Lukas said - a little vague here.

I was intentionally trying to be vague :)

I'd be happy with any tips, for taking good indoor photos of people, i.e. family photos or school photos. I.E. should I be above, level with, or below the subject.. what color should the background be, and anything you can think of to help me, sirs!

Then your answers are likely to be just as vague ;).

Sometimes above, sometimes level, and sometimes below.

what color should the background be,
The background can be any color you want it to be.

and anything you can think of to help me, sirs!

I'm back :p

http://www.amazon.com/Monte-Zuckers-Portrait-Photography-Handbook/dp/1584282134/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230846707&sr=1-4

I've looked about about 10-15 books, trying to find a good one...

This one seems the closest to what I want, however; In the table of contents, it doesn't mention singles or couples. Just groups, and briefly at that.

The books I've found on singles seem to be .. erotic books?

Judging a book by it's cover, it doesn't look like something I'd be using for my church's portrait photos.!!

Any suggestions for me?
Thank you, sirs/ma'ams.

Hi, Thompson!

That looks pretty good, I actually saw it before..

My problem is, the ToC doesn't mention backgrounds!

I guess, I can get that book.. and then the other one, just for backgrounds?

Thanks.

Not sure you'll find much on backgrounds. Neutral mottled colors work best as you want a color that will compliment the clothes worn. Position subject anywhere from 4-8' from background. Sometimes light the background separate, sometimes not. You may find a book on lighting helpful as well - Christopher Grey - Lighting (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1584281251/ref=s9subs_c1_14_img2-rfc_g1_si1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=1Y8632SVWAMRS3YYGAR0&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=463383351&pf_rd_i=507846)
