Hi

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice.

I just bought a Canon SD300 and I am going traveliing for 4 months so I know I need a spare battery because of the paltry life of canon's.

But they are expensive and I was just wondering whether if it is ok to buy a generic. And if so are there particular brands that are well established that anybody would recommend.

Appreciate any help.

Cheers

Hi,

I'm not exactly sure because I have not had too much experience with batteries, but the brand names usually work better. Also, a question like this would probobly get more feedback in the "Batteries" section of this forum. Hope this amateur's opinion helps!

Yes. The thread should be in batteries. Jeff'll probably move it later.

Anyway, as long as the generic battery fits the space provided and has the correct voltage then there should be no problems whatsoever. Check that the capacity (mah) is the same or bigger than your current battery and a cheaper battery will make sense. Essentially, battery technology is very simple: anode + cathode + electrolyte. The differences between batteries are basically based around the chemical composition of the electrolyte and the sizes/materials that the anode and cathode are made from. It's not complicated at all. It's very basic chemistry so only real cheapskates like the Chinese can get batteries wrong.
