My Casio Exilim EXZ-600 has a dim/washed out looking LCD screen. The backlight is fine, bright. Pictures captured are just fine. Camera otherwise operates fine.

According to the Casio Electronics press release:
"The extra large 2.7 inch Super Bright LCD is approximately three times brighter than the previous EX-Z500 model, producing an impressive luminance of 1200 candelas per square metre.
This significant advancement makes the LCD easier to see, especially when viewed in the sunny outdoors.
In auto mode, the LCD automatically adjusts to the brightness of the surrounding environment."
I don't have any personal experience with this camera, but from the sound of the above, I can only assume that something is seriously wrong with the electronics of your cam. If there is, you'll need to bear in mind that the EX Z600 is three years old, and therefore probably not worth spending big bucks to get it inspected/repaired by Casio.
One question: Can you actually see the LCD noticeably brightening in open, sunlit outdoor settings? I'm just wondering if the LCD is somehow "stuck" on low brightness (as for indoor settings).
