The Nikon kit has filled out quite nicely... just a few more Canon items to go and I'll be 'pure'.
Added a D3 to the D300
400 f/2.8 VR
200 f/2 VR
70-200 VR
Nikon 1.4x/1.7x TC
17-55 f/2.8
85 f/1.4
10.5 fisheye
Sigma 30 f/1.4
Sigma 10-22
Nikon 50 f/1.4 (The old one so JTL can still feel superior :) )
Nikon 105 f/2.5 AIS
(3) SB-800s
The 30 f/1.4 will be sold soon and the 17-55/10-22 will switch over to a 24-70 and 14-24 but I'm in no immediate rush to change.
bwaaaahhhaaaaaaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaaaaa
i can think of quite a few reasons there !
damn, thats a kick ass kit.

Nah! If I could truly afford it, I'd be right there with you!
How's the switchover been? For me, the biggest difference is that I actually enjoy shooting my D700. I never knew until I switched that I would actually like the physical task of shooting my camera...just for the shear joy of it...;)
What made you go for the D3 vs. the D700?

the 200/2 is the shit sergio. i was only just outbid on one a couple of weeks ago. i still dream about it today. :(

you rate that over the 400? it looks like a sweet lens a lot cheaper then the 400 too! i suppose 200mm is a bit more flexible, although for wildlife the 400 would be the bomb! i think before i go back to africa i will need a 300 f4 at the very least but it is nice to dream :)

its alot more compact and portable. ive never shot with either but the consensus seems to be the 200/2VR is one of the best lens' ever made. add a 1.4TC and you've also got a 300m(ish) f2.8.

Actually I only went out and bought this stuff after your Rooz post so I could have some fun with you :)
For me the switch over from Canon to Nikon made me enjoy taking pictures much more. I like they way the functions are controlled, and I feel very comfortable using multiple flashes off camera triggered by either the D300's on board flash or the SU-800 (which I always use since it prevents blinking people in my shots) I've seen lots of great Canon flash images with their iTTL system but I was never one of those who could shoot them.
The cost of switching was very small as I purchased almost all of my glass used in mint condition so the loss on selling Canon glass was made up for buying Nikon. Saved $2k over the Canon's 200 f/2 but then spent $2k more on Nikon's 400 f/2.8 so that was a wash.

I wanted the faster AF but it came down to getting a great price. Virtually unused with 2 spare batteries, a RRS L bracket and mint 70-200VR for $4550 shipped.
The fun story was buying the 400 f/2.8 VR, a lens I lusted after but never had any intention on buying.
I was going on a vacation to Eastern Europe for the last two weeks of August and waited until 2 days before my flight to find out how much car service would be to the airport. The cheapest rate was $200 one way which had me upset to no end as I didn't see much value or enjoyment of a car ride thru NYC traffic.
There was a nice person on another forum who works for the NYC department of transportation that I purchased a few SB-800s from a month prior and had just listed his mint 400 f/2.8 VR for sale at a decent price. I made him an offer that he deliver the lens to me and drive my girlfriend and I to JFK airport so I would save the $200 car ride. When he showed up I put the lens in the hall closet, got in the car, and didn't see it for another 2 weeks.
I'm going out on a limb but I don't think there are many other people who ended up purchasing a 400VR just because they were too cheap to pay for a ride to the airport- but had my girlfriend been willing to take the $20 train like I wanted to I honestly would not own this lens today :)

I guess that's one way to justify a lens purchase (or should I say creative) either way I'm not buying it! C'mon Rich we won't tell it was NAS all the way. lol
