...which you will all probably want to run over after this, but I just got to share...

I lost my FZ5 to rain in Xian, and my son lost his TZ1 to a pickpocket, so I had to pay MSRP for a TZ5 in Shanghai, which my son has been traveling with for a month, while I got antsy for a camera. The FZ28 has been becoming more and more of a bargain, but I've been drooling over a G1, which I'm sure will become affordable after New Year's.

So, do I buy the LS8 at Office Depot as a stand-in? Do I buy the FZ28 and give up on the G1? Do I buy another FZ5 for my wife? Do I suck it up, and wait for my son to return?

I stuck it out, but then I started hearing about the MicroSoft Live Cashback and Ebay deal... I missed the 30% rebate, but caught it at 25%. And then I found some guy selling blue G1's for $600. Sometime after midnight I pulled the trigger...

And have been waiting on pins and needles for a week, 'cause the best I can figure is the seller did some construction work for a camera shop and got handed a carton of G1's in barter... And the worst...

So I come home and

It's here. It's in its box. It's brand new. I'm charging the battery right now. Okay, I'll have to wait 60 days for the rebate, and by then everyone can probably have buy it for ~$450, but I've got 60 days...:)

Those prices are way cheaper than I've seen anywhere else. B&H is $800 and here in the UK the cheapest I've seen is £535 which is also about $800 at the current poor exchange rate of 1.5$/£. If you got it for $450 (or £300) I'd say it was a real bargain even with the exchange rates at the moment.

Just to be clear, I live in Los Angeles. My son was studying in Beijing, where I joined him for a few weeks touring, then he continued on his own. Hence, he had the camera...
